Round 6

Phase: escalating

The tower's magic presses in around them, ancient and oppressive. Merrin leads the way down the narrow corridor, her dagger held ready, eyes alert for any sign of movement in the shadows that cling to the crumbling stone walls. The air grows thick with decay and something else—an unmistakable wrongness that makes Halie's skin crawl. She staggers back instinctively, clutching her holy symbol tighter as its silver surface seems to dim slightly in this place.
"Something's not right here," she breathes, her blue-gray eyes scanning the darkness ahead. "This whole place... it feels like a tomb." Her fingers tighten around the heavy mace in her other hand, the cold metal offering some small comfort against the creeping dread that fills her mind.
Varrika moves forward next, her crossbow raised and steady despite the exhaustion evident in every line of her powerful frame. "We knew this place would be dangerous," she growls, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I didn't expect it to feel quite so... alive." She glances back at Merrin, then at Seraphine. "Stick close. And keep your eyes open for any sign of movement."
Jeane steps into the corridor last, her crimson eyes narrowed as she focuses on the magical energies that swirl through the air like visible corruption. The arcane patterns etched across her wings seem to pulse with an inner light that fights against the oppressive darkness around them.
"This place is a nexus of dark magic," she says, her voice tight with concentration. "Older than anything I've encountered before." Her fingers trace complex sigils in the air as she works to establish a protective ward around the group. "Halie, your faith might shield you personally, but we need something stronger against whatever enchantments are layered into these walls."
The corridor stretches ahead of them, disappearing into shadows that seem to absorb what little light filters down from above. The faint sound of clacking bones echoes again, closer this time, reminding them all that the tower's guardians are still very much active and aware of their intrusion.
