The sound of rushing water filled the narrow passage, its icy tendrils swirling around their ankles with insistent force. Varrika's face contorted in agony as she fought against the current, her injured ankle screaming protests with each movement. Merrin moved swiftly to her side, grabbing onto her friend's outstretched hand with both of hers.

"Hold on tight," the halfling woman said, bracing herself against the opposite wall. Every muscle in her wiry frame strained as she began to pull, trying desperately to free Varrika from the water's relentless grip.

The current fought back viciously, threatening to tear them apart at any moment. But Merrin refused to let go - not after everything they'd been through together. She gritted her teeth and pulled harder, feeling the strain in her arms and shoulders as she put every ounce of strength into the effort.

Finally, with a sudden lurch, Varrika's foot came free. She stumbled forward into Merrin's arms, both women nearly losing their balance as the rushing water threatened to sweep them away. But they managed to stay upright somehow, clinging to each other for dear life as they struggled against the current.

"Come on," Merrin said, her voice barely audible over the roar of the water. "We have to keep moving." Together, they began to inch their way forward through the treacherous passageways, each step a struggle against the relentless flow and the ever-present threat of disaster lurking just beyond sight.
