Round 990 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin pulls herself up and continues on, The Guardian bursts through the wreckage above, its eyes fixed on Varikka with an unnerving intensity. Varikka knows she can't outrun it forever. She readies her mace, gripping it tightly as The Guardian's presence looms over her. The ground shudders beneath her feet, threatening to send her tumbling once more. With a Herculean effort, Varikka pulls herself up and continues on, her heart racing in her chest. She can feel The Guardian's hot breath on the back of her neck, its power making her skin crawl. Suddenly, the corridor behind her gives way, sending a section of floor crumbling down into the darkness below.
I freeze, my heart pounding in my chest as I hear the sound of crumbling stone behind me. I know I can't afford to look back, not with The Guardian so close on our heels. I grab Varikka's arm, pulling her forward with all my strength. "We have to keep moving," I hiss, my voice low and urgent. "Now."
I can feel the weight of the tower bearing down on us from all sides, the ancient magic failing with every passing second. The air is thick with dust and the musty scent of decay, and I know that we don't have much time left. I can hear the sound of splintering wood and crumbling stone all around us, the tower coming down in a cacophony of destruction. But even as the fear rises in my throat, I know I can't let it show. I have to be strong, for myself and for Varikka. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. I know the odds are stacked against us, but I also know that we have no choice. We have to fight, to buy ourselves time to escape. I glance back over my shoulder, my eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of pursuit. But all I can see is the shadowy form of The Guardian, its presence looming over us like a dark cloud. I shudder, my heart pounding in my chest as I turn back to face the unknown ahead. Together, Varikka and I creep forward into the darkness, our hearts pounding in unison as we brace ourselves for whatever horrors may lie ahead. In this turn, I:
- React instinctively to pull Varikka forward, away from the collapsing tunnel
- Express urgency and determination to keep moving
- Acknowledge the danger posed by The Guardian's approaching presence
- Prepare mentally for the challenges ahead
I do not:
- Claim responsibility for Varikka's safety or the party's survival
- Suggest going back or avoiding the pit
- Describe the pit or its potential consequences in detail
- Use any gendered language about myself or Varikka, as we are both women
