Phase: escalating

The ground bucked like a living thing beneath their feet, and Varikka felt her grip on the ledge slip. Her injured ankle screamed in protest as she scrambled for purchase, fingers digging into rusted metal. The fall had sent her plummeting toward the pit's depths, but sheer instinct had driven her hands outward, catching herself mere inches above the abyss.
Merrin hadn't hesitated. She'd lunged forward, grabbing Varikka's free arm with both hands and pulling with every ounce of strength she possessed. Together, they'd managed to haul themselves onto a narrow ledge, hearts pounding in sync as The Guardian burst through the collapsed wall above them.
The creature moved with an otherworldly grace, eyes fixed on Varikka with unnerving intensity. Its form seemed to shift and blur at the edges, never quite settling into a single shape. Merrin felt a chill run down her spine as she watched it descend, each movement fluid and deliberate.
They found themselves trapped in a maze of narrow passageways, identical chambers stretching out in every direction. The air was thick with dust and the scent of decaying stone. Varikka's injured ankle throbbed with each step, but they knew they couldn't afford to rest. The Guardian was gaining ground, its relentless pursuit echoing through the corridors.
Merrin grabbed Varikka's arm, pulling her forward with a strength born of desperation. "We have to keep moving," she hissed, her voice low and urgent. "Now." The walls groaned around them, ancient magic failing with every passing second. The ground beneath their feet felt unstable, shifting ominously with each step.
They stumbled through the maze, hearts pounding in their chests, as The Guardian's pursuit grew ever closer. The corridors seemed to stretch on endlessly, each turn revealing more of the same identical chambers. Varikka's injured ankle screamed in protest, but she gritted her teeth and pushed forward, driven by sheer adrenaline and the need to survive.
Merrin knew they couldn't keep this up forever. The Guardian was too fast, its movements unnaturally fluid and graceful. They needed a plan, some way to outsmart their pursuer or find shelter in these endless corridors. But with Varikka's injury limiting their options and the tower itself threatening to collapse around them, every second felt like a gamble.
They pressed on, hearts racing, as The Guardian's presence loomed ever closer. The walls groaned ominously, dust raining down from above, and Merrin knew they were running out of time. They had to find a way out of this maze - or face the consequences of being trapped in these collapsing tunnels with a relentless, otherworldly pursuer hot on their heels.
