Round 939 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we push deeper into the tunnel, the ground beneath our feet gives a loud crack, and the passageway shudders violently. The oily substance on the floor flows around our feet, making every step a treacherous challenge. The inscription on the wall reads: "Beware the Shadow's path." Suddenly, the tunnel opens up into a large chamber, and we find ourselves face to face with a massive, dark mirror that seems to stretch on forever. The Guardian emerges from the shadows, its eyes blazing with an otherworldly fury. We can hear the sound of falling rock and collapsing stone echoing through the tunnel behind us, and I know we're running out of time. "We need to find a way across, now!" Varikka shouts, her hand on the hilt of her mace. The mirror's surface ripples and distorts, revealing a glimpse of a dark, shadowy figure lurking just beyond.
The oily substance on the floor slithers around my boots as we step into the chamber, its dark sheen reflecting the eerie glow of the massive mirror before us. I can feel the weight of the Guardian's presence pressing down on me, its otherworldly fury radiating from every pore. Varikka stands beside me, her hand gripping her mace tightly, her eyes scanning the room for any sign of an escape route. The tunnel behind us groans and shudders, chunks of rock and debris raining down as the passage collapses in on itself. We're running out of time. "Merrin," Varikka says, her voice strained with pain and exhaustion. "We need to find a way across this chamber, now. The tunnel's coming down, and that thing..." She jerks her head towards the Guardian, her eyes wide with fear. "It's getting closer."
I nod, my mind racing as I try to formulate a plan. The mirror looms before us, its dark surface rippling and distorting as if reflecting some unseen horror lurking just beyond. I can see a shadowy figure moving within its depths, its form shifting and changing with each passing moment. It's like staring into the abyss, and I can feel my stomach churning with dread. "There," I say, pointing to a narrow ledge that runs along the edge of the chamber. "We might be able to use that to cross over to the other side."
Varikka follows my gaze, her brow furrowing in concentration. "It's a risk," she says, wincing as she shifts her weight onto her injured ankle. "But it might be our only chance."
I take a deep breath, my hand tightening on the hilt of my crossbow. The oily substance on the floor seems to cling to my boots like a dark stain, making every step a challenge. But we can't afford to slow down. Not with the Guardian bearing down on us and the chamber crumbling around our ears. "Alright," I say, my voice low and urgent. "We'll have to move fast. Keep your balance and watch for any traps or pitfalls."
Varikka nods, her face set in a grim expression of determination. Together, we step out onto the ledge, our bodies pressed close as we navigate the narrow passage. The oily substance on the floor flows around our feet, making every step a treacherous challenge. But we can't afford to slow down. Not with the Guardian just steps behind us and the chamber crumbling around our ears. As we move across the ledge, I can feel the weight of the inscription on the wall bearing down on me: "Beware the Shadow's path." The air grows colder and more oppressive with each passing moment, and I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. The shadowy figure in the mirror seems to follow our every move, its dark form shifting and changing with each step we take. But even as fear threatens to overwhelm me, I force myself to focus. To push down the pain and the exhaustion and the sheer, overwhelming terror of our situation. Because right now, in this moment, all that matters is surviving. Surviving long enough to find a way out of this godsforsaken place, even if it means facing the wrath of whatever ancient evil lurks in the depths of this tower. And as we move deeper into the darkness, I know one thing for certain: we won't go down without a fight.
