As Merrin pulls herself up onto the ledge, she hears a loud creaking sound, and the ground beneath them shudders violently. The tunnel begins to collapse, sending rocks and debris crashing down the passage. Varikka's face sets in a grim mask as she grabs Merrin's arm and helps her stumble forward. "We have to move, now!" she cries out above the din of falling stone. The narrow ledge they're standing on is barely wide enough for the two of them, and the water rushing past their feet threatens to sweep them away at any moment. Merrin knows they can't stay here for long - The Guardian will be upon them soon. She spots a small opening in the tunnel wall, partially hidden by a tangle of roots and vines. "There!" she shouts back to Varikka, "the exit! We have to get through that hole!"

I grab Varikka's arm and help her stumble towards the small opening in the tunnel wall. The ground beneath us shakes violently, sending rocks and debris raining down around us. I can hear the Guardian's ominous roar growing louder as it crashes through the collapsing tunnel behind us. "Hurry!" I shout over the din of falling stone. "We have to get through that hole!"

My heart pounds in my chest as we make our way towards the opening, the water rushing past our feet threatening to sweep us away at any moment. Varikka grunts with pain as she hobbles alongside me, her injured ankle clearly causing her great distress. As we reach the tangle of roots and vines partially obscuring the opening, I quickly assess the situation. The hole is small, perhaps just large enough for a halfling to squeeze through. But Varikka's broad shoulders will make it much more difficult for her to navigate the tight space. "Varikka," I say urgently as I begin to clear away the obstruction, "you're going to have to go through first. I'll help boost you up and then follow behind."

Varikka nods grimly, her face set with determination despite the pain she's clearly in. "I understand," she says through gritted teeth. "Let's do this."

Together, we work to clear away the remaining debris and vines blocking the opening. As the last of the obstruction falls away, I can see that the hole is indeed small, but passable with some effort. "Alright," I say, taking a deep breath to steel myself for what's to come. "On the count of three, I'm going to boost you up and through. Ready?"

Varikka nods, her hands gripping the edge of the opening tightly. "Ready," she confirms. "One... two... three!" I grunt as I heave with all my strength, lifting Varikka up and through the hole. For a moment, it seems like she might not make it, her broad shoulders catching on the edges of the opening. But with a final, determined push, she manages to squeeze through, landing in a heap on the other side with a pained groan. "Merrin!" she calls out urgently. "I'm through! Now you!"

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the climb ahead. The sound of the Guardian's approach is growing ever louder, and I know we don't have much time left. With a final glance back at the collapsing tunnel behind us, I turn and begin to scale the wall towards the opening, my heart pounding in my chest. As I reach the hole, I pause for just a moment, my hands gripping the edges tightly. The opening is small, and the climb is steep. But I know that I have no choice - I have to get through, or risk being crushed beneath the falling stone. "Here goes nothing," I mutter under my breath, before taking a deep breath and hauling myself up and into the hole. The climb is difficult, my muscles burning with the effort of pulling myself through the narrow opening. But finally, after what feels like an eternity, I feel Varikka's strong hands gripping my arms and hauling me up and over the edge to safety. "Thank you," I gasp out, collapsing onto the ground beside her in a heap. "That was too close."

Varikka nods grimly, her face pale with pain and exhaustion. "Too close indeed," she agrees. "But we made it. And that's what matters."

I look around, taking in our surroundings for the first time since we emerged from the tunnel. We're in a small, circular chamber, with rough-hewn stone walls and a low ceiling. A narrow passageway leads off to our left, disappearing into the darkness. "Where do you think this leads?" I ask, my voice echoing slightly in the confines of the chamber. Varikka shakes her head, wincing as she tries to put weight on her injured ankle. "I don't know," she says. "But it's our only choice. We can't go back the way we came."

I nod, my mind already racing ahead to what challenges and dangers might lie ahead. But one thing is certain - we can't stay here. "Alright," I say, hauling myself to my feet with a grunt of effort. "Let's see where this tunnel leads. And let's hope it's better than the last one."
