Round 866 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I help Varikka to her feet, her splinted ankle throbbing with each step, the stone door behind us shudders violently. The Guardian's enraged bellows echo through the passageway, growing louder with every second. Elric notices a small crack in the wall, just large enough for me to squeeze through, but it's too narrow for Varikka. "We need to find another way," he whispers, his torch casting flickering shadows on the walls. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the chamber, and the stone door begins to shake violently. The air is thick with dust, and I can feel the weight of the stone overhead, threatening to crush us at any moment. Varikka cries out in pain as her ankle catches on a jagged rock. "Merrin, I'm not going to make it!" she exclaims, her voice strained with pain. I glance frantically around the room, my eyes darting from one shadowy corner to another, searching for any sign of an exit. The sound of The Guardian's bellows grows louder still, and I know we're running out of time.
I hear Varikka's cry of pain and see her struggling to get to her feet. My heart lurches in my chest, but I know we can't afford to hesitate. "Varikka, stay still," I say, my voice sharp with urgency. "Don't try to stand on that ankle."
I turn to Elric, my eyes wide with fear. "We need to get her out of here, now." I scan the room frantically, my gaze settling on the small crack in the wall. It's our only chance. "Elric, help me widen this opening," I say, grabbing a loose stone from the debris and wedging it into the crack. "We need to get Varikka through."
Together, we work feverishly to enlarge the gap, the sound of The Guardian's bellows growing louder with each passing second. Sweat pours down my face as I heave at the stones, my muscles straining with the effort. Finally, after what feels like an eternity, the opening is big enough for Varikka to squeeze through. "Go," I say, my voice hoarse with exertion. "I'll follow right behind you."
Varikka nods grimly and begins to crawl through the gap, her splinted ankle scraping against the rough stone. Elric follows close behind, his torch casting flickering shadows on the walls. As I watch them disappear into the darkness beyond, a sudden crack echoes through the chamber, and the stone door begins to shudder violently. I know we're running out of time. Taking a deep breath, I turn and squeeze through the opening after them, my heart pounding in my chest as I pray that whatever lies beyond will be better than the fate that awaits us if we stay. The Guardian's bellows fade into the distance as I emerge on the other side, gasping for breath. Varikka is slumped against the wall, her face pale with pain, while Elric holds his torch high, illuminating the narrow passageway ahead. "We need to keep moving," I say, my voice hoarse but determined. "That thing won't stay trapped forever."
Varikka nods weakly, her jaw set with determination. "Lead the way, Merrin," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll follow as best I can."
And so, with Elric's torchlight guiding us, we set off into the depths of the chamber, our hearts heavy with the knowledge that our true test still lies ahead. The Guardian's bellows echo through the passageway behind us, growing louder with every step, and I know that we must find a way to escape - or be doomed to perish in this accursed tower forever. But for now, at least, we are safe. And that is enough.
I feel my heart pounding as Elric helps me through the narrow opening, my splinted ankle scraping painfully against the rough stone. The sound of The Guardian's bellows fades into the distance behind us, but I know we're far from safe. Merrin's voice cuts through the darkness, sharp with urgency. "We need to keep moving. That thing won't stay trapped forever."
I nod grimly, my jaw set with determination. "Lead the way, Merrin," I say, my voice hoarse with pain. "I'll follow as best I can."
Elric holds his torch high, illuminating the narrow passageway ahead. The air is thick with dust and the scent of decay, and I can feel the weight of the stone overhead, threatening to crush us at any moment. But at least here we have a chance - a slim one, perhaps, but better than the fate that awaited us back in that chamber. As we set off into the depths of the tower, my mind races with thoughts of what lies ahead. The Time-Splitting Sword still eludes us, and I know that our quest is far from over. But for now, at least, we are safe. And that is enough. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever challenges may lie ahead. With Merrin and Elric by my side, I know that we can face even the darkest of horrors - as long as we stay together, and never give up hope.
