Merrin's grip on Varikka's arm tightens as they navigate the narrow corridor, their footsteps echoing off the stone walls. The air is thick with dust, making it hard to breathe, and the smell of decay clings to every surface. A faint glow emanates from luminescent mushrooms growing on the walls, casting an eerie light on the scene. Varikka's injured ankle protests with every step, sending a wave of pain through her body. Merrin winces in sympathy, her own legs shaking with fatigue and fear. They've managed to put some distance between themselves and the rising water, but The Guardian's pursuit remains a constant threat. Suddenly, Varikka's face contorts in agony as she struggles to keep moving. "I... can't take much more," she gasps, her voice barely audible over the sound of dripping water. "We need to find shelter, now."

We need to find shelter fast, but this tunnel looks unstable. I'm worried more sections could collapse at any moment. I peer into the shadows ahead, my eyes straining to make out any hint of danger.

"I hear you," I say, my voice tight with concern. "But we can't afford to stop now - not with The Guardian still on our tail."

I scan the tunnel ahead, my eyes narrowing as I spot a narrow crevice in the wall. "There!" I exclaim, pointing towards the opening. "It's not much, but it might be enough to give us some shelter from the collapsing walls and rising water."

I help Varikka limp towards the crevice, my arm wrapped tightly around her waist as I support her weight. "We'll rest here for a moment," I say, my voice softening with concern. "Just long enough to catch our breath and check your ankle."

As we huddle together in the cramped space, I can feel the fear and exhaustion radiating off Varikka's body. But there's something else too - a flicker of determination in her eyes that tells me she won't give up without a fight.

"We'll make it out of here," I murmur, my hand finding hers in the darkness.* "Together. No matter what it takes."

And with that, I close my eyes, letting myself rest for just a moment before we have to push on into the unknown depths of the tower.
