The chamber was a maze of stone pillars and shifting shadows, offering no clear escape route. Merrin's eyes scanned the darkness ahead, her hand still gripping Varrika's shoulder. "See anything useful?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady despite the rising panic in her chest.

Varrika shook her head, her free hand clutching her mace tightly. "Nothing but more damn walls," she muttered, then froze as another section of the floor gave way beneath them. Merrin's grip tightened on her shoulder as they both stumbled forward, barely managing to stay upright in the slippery water.

The chanting reached a crescendo, and suddenly, a voice boomed through the chamber. "You will not escape me!" it cried, echoing off the stone walls. The ground shuddered again, more violently this time, sending a spray of water into the air.

Merrin's eyes widened as she spotted something in the darkness ahead—a narrow passage leading upwards. "There!" she exclaimed, pointing with her free hand. "That has to be our way out!"

The chanting grew even louder as they reached the opening, and Varrika had to use her mace as a makeshift crutch to haul herself up. Merrin scrambled after her, her heart pounding in her chest as she heard the water rising behind them. They collapsed onto solid ground on the other side, gasping for breath as the sound of rushing water filled the air.

Varrika rolled onto her back, clutching her throbbing ankle and trying to catch her breath. "That was too close," she panted, looking up at Merrin with a grim smile. "We need to find a way out of this damn tomb before it collapses entirely."

Merrin nodded, already scanning their new surroundings for any sign of danger or escape route. The chanting seemed to fade as they moved further away from the watery chamber, but she knew it was only a matter of time before the Guardian found them again.

"Stay close," she said, offering her hand to help Varrika to her feet. "We're not out of this yet."
