Round 562 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Guardian's eyes glow brighter, casting an eerie light on the murky pool of water. The fog swirls around Varikka, tendrils of vapor curling around her ankles like grasping fingers. With a sudden movement, she stumbles forward, her injured ankle protesting with a sharp pain.
I hear Varikka's voice echoing off the cold stone walls, frantic and desperate as she calls out my name. "Varikka!" I shout back, relief flooding through me at the sound of her voice. "I'm here! Keep talking, I'll find you!"
I stagger forward, my hands outstretched before me as I feel my way through the swirling fog. The ground is slick and treacherous underfoot, and I can feel it giving way with each step, threatening to send me tumbling back into the icy depths. "Varikka!" I call out again, my voice growing hoarse and raw with exertion. "Keep talking! I'm close!"
Suddenly, my hand brushes against something solid - the rough stone of a wall, cold and damp to the touch. "Varikka!" I shout, my voice echoing off the walls as I feel my way along the wall's edge. "I've found the wall! Stay where you are, I'm coming!"
I take another tentative step forward, my foot splashing in the shallow water. The fog swirls around us like a living thing, tendrils of vapor curling and grasping at our clothes and skin. "Varikka!" I call out once more, my voice growing more frantic as I feel my way along the wall. "Where are you? Answer me!"
My heart pounds in my chest as I hear Varikka's voice growing fainter, fading into the distance. I know that we are in grave danger here, that the trials we face will test us in ways we can't even imagine. "Varikka!" I shout one last time, my voice hoarse and ragged but filled with determination. "Keep fighting! We'll get through this, together!"
I take another step forward, my foot splashing in the water. And then, suddenly, I feel a hand grasp mine, strong and sure in the darkness. "Merrin," Varikka's voice echoes off the walls, filled with relief and exhaustion. "I've got you. We'll make it through this, together."
I grip her hand tightly, feeling the warmth of her skin against my own. And together, we take another step forward into the unknown, ready to face whatever horrors this place may hold.
I breathe a sigh of relief as my hand grips Merrin's tightly, the warmth of their skin a welcome contrast to the icy cold of the water. "Thank the gods," I mutter, my voice shaking with exhaustion and pain. "I thought I'd lost you for a moment there."
I take a tentative step forward, my injured ankle protesting with a sharp pain. But I push through it, determined to get us both to safety no matter what it takes. "Come on," I say, tugging gently on Merrin's hand. "We need to keep moving. This place is too dangerous to stay in for long."
As we move forward, the fog swirls around us like a living thing, tendrils of vapor curling and grasping at our clothes and skin. I can feel the Guardian's eyes upon us, watching us with an unnerving intensity. "Stay alert," I murmur to Merrin, my hand tightening on my mace. "We don't know what other horrors this place may hold."
But even as I speak those words, a sense of unease settles over me. The trials we have faced so far have been nothing compared to what lies ahead, and I know that our strength and courage will be tested in ways we can't even imagine. "Merrin," I say, my voice low and serious as I turn to face her. "Whatever happens next, whatever horrors this place may hold...we face them together. As a team. Understand?"
I see the nod of her head, the set of her jaw as she meets my gaze. "Together," she echoes, her voice filled with grim determination. "No matter what."
And with that, we turn back into the swirling fog, ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead - side by side, and with the knowledge that we will not face them alone.
