As Merrin and Varika struggle to navigate the narrow passageway, the water level continues to rise, lapping at their knees. The air is thick with the scent of decay, and ancient runes etched into the stone walls pulse with an eerie energy, casting flickering shadows across the chamber. Suddenly, a loud creaking sound echoes through the passage, followed by the ominous rumble of shifting stone. The ground beneath their feet trembles ominously. Varika's injured ankle throbs in pain as she stumbles, her balance precarious on the jagged rocks and loose debris scattered about. Merrin catches her by the elbow, steadying her, but the force of the water surge makes it difficult to maintain their grip. "We need to find a way to slow down the floodwaters!" Varika cries out, her voice laced with desperation. The passageway behind them begins to collapse, rocks tumbling down the slope as the wall slides open wider. A faint glow emanates from the depths of the passage, illuminating the treacherous terrain ahead.

I grit my teeth, bracing against the rising waters and shifting stones. "Varrika, can you see any way to dam up the flow ahead? Maybe a fallen block or wedged rocks to slow it down?" I call out, my voice strained as I try to maintain my footing on the treacherous ground. The faint glow from deeper in the passage intensifies, casting eerie shadows across the walls and illuminating the jagged debris littering our path. I can feel the cold water lapping at my knees, threatening to sweep me off balance at any moment. "We need to keep moving forward, but if we can't find a way to stem this flood, it'll wash us away for sure," I mutter, more to myself than to Varrika. My hands fumble at my belt, checking the weight of my crowbar and lockpicks. They might be our best bet for finding a chokepoint in the passage. "Keep an eye out for anything we can use as a barrier," I shout over the roar of the water. "And watch your step - last thing we need is for you to twist that ankle even worse!"
