As we scramble to our feet, dazed and bruised from the fall, Varika's injured hand throbs in protest. She grits her teeth, wincing with each movement. "Merrin," she gasps, her voice hoarse from the impact. "My hand...it hurts."

I rush to her side, gently examining the wound. "I know, I can see that," I reply, trying to reassure her. "But we need to keep moving. We're not safe here." I glance around the chamber, my eyes scanning for any signs of danger. The water pressure is increasing exponentially, and I can feel the air growing colder and damper by the second. Suddenly, a faint scratching noise echoes through the chamber, making us both jump. Varika's eyes widen in alarm, and she clings to me tightly. "What was that?" she whispers, her voice trembling. I frown, trying to locate the source of the sound. "I don't know," I reply, my hand on Varika's shoulder, "but we need to find out." The scratching noise grows louder, and I can feel a presence closing in around us. We have to act fast to survive.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

"[Merrin] I crouch low, my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. My heart pounds in my chest as I try to pinpoint the source of the scratching noise, but it seems to be coming from everywhere at once. Varikka, we need to find a way out of here," I hiss under my breath. "The water's rising too fast, and I don't know what's making that sound."

I reach for my mace, only to realize it's still buried in the rubble behind us. I curse under my breath, my hand instinctively moving to my belt where my lockpicks should be. But they're gone, lost in the collapse of the wall. I feel naked without my tools, vulnerable in a way I haven't felt since I first set foot in this damnable tower.

I glance around the chamber, my eyes landing on the massive boulder that had come crashing down the stairs. It's half-buried in the rubble, but it looks like it might be loose enough to move. If we can get it to block the doorway, we might be able to slow the water long enough to find another way out.

"Varikka," I say, my voice low and urgent. "Help me with that boulder. We need to buy ourselves some time."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I nod at Merrin, my hand still throbbing from the impact of our fall. The pain is nothing new to me - I've felt worse on countless battlefields. But the urgency in her voice makes me stand at attention.

"Of course," I grunt, limping towards the boulder with a grim determination. "Let's see if we can't stop this flood before it swamps us."

As we approach the massive rock, I can feel the vibrations of the water pressure through the soles of my boots. It's getting stronger by the second, and I know we don't have much time.

"On three," I say to Merrin, positioning myself on one side of the boulder. "One...two...three!"

We heave with all our might, straining against the weight of the rock. For a moment, nothing happens, and I feel a flicker of panic rise in my chest. But then, slowly, the boulder starts to shift, rolling forward inch by agonizing inch.

"Keep going," I pant, my muscles burning with the effort. "We're almost there!"

With a final, monumental push, we manage to wedge the boulder against the door frame, creating a makeshift dam against the oncoming flood. The water slams into the rock, sending a spray of icy droplets across the chamber, but the barrier holds...for now.

"Good work," I say to Merrin, wiping the sweat from my brow. "But we're not out of this yet. We need to keep moving, find a way to get above the water level before it's too late."

I glance around the chamber, trying to get my bearings in the dim light. The water is still rising, lapping at our ankles as we stand there, and I can feel the air growing colder and damper by the second.

"Merrin," I say, my voice low and urgent. "We need to find a way out of here. And we need to do it fast."
