Round 348 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's hand still clutches the jagged edge, her fingers white-knuckled as she pulls herself up, gasping for air. Water continues to sluice off her body, threatening to wash away any progress. Varikka holds her steady, her expression a mixture of concern and urgency. "We need to move, now! The ledge is crumbling faster than we can find this hidden mechanism."
The creatures pause at the edge of the ledge, their glowing eyes fixed on the newly exposed passage. They seem hesitant, unsure whether to pursue or retreat. Varikka glances at Merrin, then back at the passage. "We can't stay here. The pressure plate activated a mechanism, but it might not hold for long." She starts to lead Merrin towards the passageway, but the sound of rushing water grows louder, and the ground shudders ominously beneath their feet.
"Varrika!" I gasp, my voice hoarse from choking on foul water. "I'm alright, I think, but..." My words trail off as another shudder wracks the ledge beneath our feet. Crumbling stone rains down, splashing into the dark waters below. Varikka's grip on my arm tightens, her calloused fingers digging into my flesh. "Merrin, we need to move. Now!" She practically drags me towards the newly exposed passageway, her boots slipping on the slick stone. The creatures that had been closing in now hesitate at the edge of the ledge, their glowing eyes fixed on us with unnerving intensity. I can feel their hunger, their malice, even from this distance. As we reach the passage, Varikka shoves me inside ahead of her. "Go!" she snaps, her voice raw with urgency. "I'll hold them off!" Before I can protest, she turns and raises her shield, bracing herself against the onslaught of the creatures. I hesitate for a moment, my heart twisting at the thought of leaving her behind. But another shudder from the ledge decides me. I have to survive, have to find a way out of this hellhole. With a final, anguished look back at Varrika, I turn and plunge into the darkness of the passage, my heart pounding in my chest. The air is cold and damp, heavy with the scent of mold and decay. I can hear the distant rumble of falling stone, the skittering of unseen creatures in the shadows. My breath comes in ragged gasps as I stumble forward, my hands outstretched to feel my way through the darkness. After what feels like an eternity, the passage opens up into a larger chamber. I can see the faint outline of stone walls rising up on either side of me, the ceiling lost in shadow above. In the center of the chamber, a massive stone pedestal looms, its surface covered in strange symbols and runes. I approach the pedestal cautiously, my heart pounding in my chest. As I reach out to examine the symbols more closely, a sudden movement catches my eye. I whirl around, my hand instinctively going for my mace, only to find myself face to face with a pair of glowing eyes in the darkness. "Who are you?" I demand, my voice barely a whisper. "What do you want?"
