The water rose in a steady, terrifying tide, now lapping at the lip of the ancient stone basin that served as their only refuge. Varrika pressed herself against the far wall, her scarred hands gripping the rough hewn rock for purchase as another wave of frigid liquid surged upward. The dwarf woman's breath came in ragged gasps, her chest heaving beneath her leather armor. Blood from a gash on her forehead mixed with grime and sweat to streak down her face, stinging her eyes.
