As Merrin takes a step forward, the spindly hand reaches out further, its bioluminescent markings pulsing with an otherworldly glow. The Guardian's voice echoes through the passage, "You should not have come here, mortal. This passage is not for the living." The hand closes in on Merrin's arm, its slimy surface making her skin crawl. With a surge of adrenaline, she swings her dagger in a wide arc, trying to strike at the creature. The blade bites deep into the creature's wrist, causing it to yelp in pain and release its grip on Merrin's arm. The hand recoils, leaving Merrin free to take another step forward. However, as she moves, the ground beneath her feet gives a loud creak, threatening to collapse the passage further. The rising water in the pit trap and main chamber is now knee-deep, and the sound of rushing water grows louder still. Merrin must decide how to proceed, knowing that time is running out. The creature, still wounded, lets out a shrill cry and begins to slither back towards the secret passage, its bioluminescent markings fading as it disappears into the darkness. The Guardian's glowing eyes watch Merrin warily, its expression unreadable.

I let out a gasp as the spindly hand reaches for me, its bioluminescent markings pulsing ominously in the darkness. My heart races as I raise my dagger, the weight of the blade familiar in my grip. With a swift motion, I swing the dagger at the creature's wrist, feeling the satisfying bite of steel against flesh. The hand recoils, releasing its grip on my arm and leaving a trail of slimy residue behind. But there's no time to waste. The ground beneath my feet creaks ominously, threatening to collapse at any moment. I glance back over my shoulder, my eyes widening as I see the rising water in the pit trap and main chamber. It's now knee-deep, the sound of rushing water filling the air. I can't afford to hesitate. With a deep breath, I take another step forward into the secret passage, my dagger at the ready. The Guardian's glowing eyes watch me warily, its expression unreadable. As I move deeper into the darkness, I keep my senses on high alert, my ears straining for any sign of movement or danger. The air grows thicker with each step, heavy with the scent of decay and corruption. I know that Varikka is depending on me to find a way out of this hellhole, and I will not let her down. No matter what horrors may await me in the depths of this cursed passage, I will face them head-on, with the strength and courage of a true adventurer. I am Merrin Quickstep, and I will see this through to the end, no matter the cost. But as I take another step forward, I feel a sudden surge of fear wash over me. What if I'm leading us into even greater danger? What if the Guardian was right, and this passage is truly not meant for the living? I shake my head, trying to clear the doubts from my mind. I have to stay focused, to keep moving forward no matter what lies ahead. With a final glance back at Varikka, still struggling to climb the narrow ledge above the unstable staircase, I turn and disappear into the darkness of the secret passage, my heart pounding in my chest as I prepare to confront whatever horrors may await me.
