As Merrin nears the top of the staircase, the water surges higher, lapping at her waist. She can feel the icy coldness seeping into her bones, and her muscles ache from the exertion. The Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash ominously in the water below, and Merrin knows she's running out of time. Suddenly, the staircase creaks ominously beneath her foot, and a section of the ledge gives way, sending Merrin tumbling towards the water. She manages to grab hold of the railing just in time, but her grip is tenuous, and she feels herself being pulled towards the edge. The sound of rushing water grows louder as the pit trap below begins to fill with an even greater amount of water, threatening to engulf Merrin whole. The Guardian emerges from the shadows, its eyes glowing with an eerie light, and lets out a warning hiss as it sees Merrin's precarious situation. Merrin must decide whether to try and pull herself back onto the ledge or make a desperate leap for the safety of the top of the staircase.

I feel my grip on the railing slipping as I teeter on the edge of the crumbling staircase. The water surges below me, threatening to pull me down into its icy depths at any moment. I can hear the Tentacled Horror's eerie clicking sounds echoing through the chamber, and I know that it won't be long before it emerges from the shadows to claim its next victim. I glance up at the ledge above, my heart racing as I try to gauge the distance between us. It's a long way to climb, and the stone is slick with moisture. But I know I can't stay here. Not when the staircase is about to collapse completely and send me plummeting into the pit trap below. With a deep breath, I make my decision. I reach out with my free hand, grasping at the ledge above as I pull myself up with all my might. My fingers scrabble for purchase on the wet stone, but I manage to find a grip and haul myself up onto the ledge with a grunt of effort. For a moment, I lie there panting, my chest heaving with exertion. But I don't have time to rest. The sound of rushing water grows louder as the pit trap fills even faster, and I know I need to keep moving if I want to survive. I glance around, taking in the crumbling walls of the chamber and the eerie glow of the Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings in the water below. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I see something that makes my heart stop. There, just a few yards away, is a narrow opening in the wall. It looks like it might be a secret passage, leading off into the depths of the dungeon. And if I'm not mistaken, there seems to be a faint light coming from within. I know I should keep moving, should try to find a way out of this hellhole before it's too late. But the temptation of that secret passage is too strong to resist. Maybe, just maybe, it will lead me to the legendary Time-Splitting Sword I've been searching for. Or at least a way out of this nightmare. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. And then, with a final glance back at the crumbling staircase and the watery depths below, I start to make my way towards the opening, my heart pounding in my chest as I step into the unknown.
