Phase: escalating

The water swirled hungrily around Seraphine's ankles, lapping at her skin with predatory energy. She refused to budge, focusing on the ancient symbols that pulsed with eerie light. The carvings bled crimson text across the stone: "The Devourer of Light approaches." Just as she steadied herself for what comes next, the ground beneath her gave way.
She felt herself being pulled down into the depths of the massive underground lake. Desperate, she tried to grab onto the ancient stone altar, but it was too late. The water closed over her head, and she plummeted into darkness. The last thing she heard was the ominous warning echoing through the chamber.
Merrin watched in horror as Seraphine disappeared beneath the surface. The water rose rapidly, threatening to pull her under too. Without hesitation, she waded forward, plunging into the inky blackness after her friend. The water was cold and unforgiving, pulling at her limbs as she fought to stay afloat.
But Merrin couldn't afford to lose focus now. Not when Seraphine might still be out there, trapped or in danger. With a deep breath, she dove beneath the surface, her eyes straining against the darkness as she searched for any sign of her friend.
The water pressed in from all sides, and the weight of the depths bore down on her. She could feel the current tugging at her, trying to pull her deeper into the abyss. But Merrin was a survivor. She wouldn't give up that easily.
She swam through the darkness, her hands outstretched, searching for any sign of Seraphine. The cold gnawed at her bones, and her lungs burned for air, but she pushed on, driven by desperation and the need to find her friend before it was too late.
