Phase: escalating

The wave crashed down like a hammer, sealing them in this strange underwater chamber. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and the bioluminescent creatures cast an eerie glow on the walls—as though the very stone had begun to weep light. Merrin could feel the water rising rapidly around her legs, threatening to engulf them at any moment.
"Seraphine, we're trapped!" she shouted over the roar of the rising water, her voice echoing off the slick stone walls. The rogue's wiry frame tensed as she assessed their situation with quick, darting glances. The massive chamber stretched out before them—an underground lake fed by a dozen converging tunnels, each gaping maw dark and inviting in its own ominous way.
In the center of it all, something massive stirred beneath the surface. A disturbance broke the water's skin, and Merrin caught a glimpse of pale flesh and writhing tentacles before the vision vanished back into the depths with a powerful swirl. Whatever had pulled Varikka under was still down there—and now they were trapped in its domain.
"By the gods," she breathed, her dark eyes wide as she took an involuntary step backward. The water lapped at her ankles, cold and insistent, while overhead, the groans of collapsing stone grew louder. They had mere moments before this entire chamber became their tomb.
Merrin's grip tightened on the heavy mace she'd managed to snag, its familiar weight offering some small comfort. Her injured arm throbbed with each beat of her panicked heart, but she pushed the pain aside—there was no time for weakness now. She needed to think, to plan, to find a way out of this nightmare before it consumed them all.
The shrieking from above had stopped, replaced by an ominous silence that felt far more threatening. What had happened to Jeane and Halie? Were they trapped under rubble? Or worse—had the demoness's dark nature drawn something even more sinister into their midst?
A sudden splash nearby made Merrin jump, her nerves already frayed past endurance. She whirled toward the sound, torch held high, only to find Seraphine surfacing from a dive, her face pale in the flickering light.
"What did you see?" Merrin demanded, moving closer while keeping a wary eye on the dark water surrounding them.
Seraphine's voice trembled as she spoke. "Something... something huge is down there. I felt it brush against my leg—cold and slick like... like a dead thing." She shuddered, pushing wet hair from her face with shaking hands. "And there are eyes everywhere. Dozens of them, watching us from the darkness."
Merrin's stomach twisted into knots. Of course there were eyes—of course there were monsters in this fucking hellhole. Why wouldn't there be? She should have expected it, should have planned for it... but no amount of planning could have prepared her for the sheer scale of their predicament.
The water was now halfway up their calves, rising steadily. They had minutes at most before it reached chest height—and then they'd be truly trapped, forced to either swim through god-knew-what or drown in this cursed place.
"We need to find a way out," Merrin said, her voice tight with barely controlled panic. "Quickly. Before we can't move without swimming."
Seraphine nodded, her face set with grim determination despite the fear shining in her eyes. "I saw a tunnel on the far side of the chamber—it looked like it might lead up. But the current is strong, and I don't know what's waiting for us in that darkness."
Merrin glanced around the cavernous space, noting the multiple entrances and the sheer scale of the problem. They couldn't afford to split their already diminished party further—but staying here meant certain death by drowning or worse.
"Then we swim," she decided, her jaw clenching as she<|im_start|>
