As Merrin dives down into the depths of the lake, she feels a sudden jolt and her foot slips on a patch of smooth stone. She tumbles forward, her arms flailing wildly as she struggles to regain her balance. The water rushes past her, threatening to sweep her away, but she manages to grab hold of a nearby rock and pull herself back up. As she surfaces, gasping for air, she sees the tentacle thrashing through the water, its suckers leaving trails of muck and debris in its wake. Varikka's body is being pulled down into the depths, and Merrin knows they don't have much time left before she is lost forever. The water pressure increases, making it harder for Merrin to hold her breath, and she feels a stinging sensation in her eyes from the saltwater. Merrin takes a deep breath and dives back down into the water, her arms slicing through the waves with growing strength. She knows she has only one chance to save Varikka, and she must act quickly before it's too late. She spots the tentacle again, and this time, she notices that its writhing shape seems to be heading towards a large underwater cavern. Merrin must decide: does she follow the tentacle into the cavern, or does she try to find another way to rescue Varikka?

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I feel a chill run down my spine as I watch Varikka disappear beneath the churning waves. My heart races, my breath coming in short, sharp gasps as I force myself to push forward through the freezing water. The current is strong, the lake's depths dark and murky, but I can't let fear hold me back. Not when Varikka needs me. I dive down, my lungs burning with the need for air, my eyes straining against the darkness. The water pressure increases, making it harder to swim, harder to think. But I push on, my arms slicing through the waves with desperate strength. And then, I see it - the tentacle, writhing and thrashing through the water, its slimy surface glinting in the faint light filtering down from above. I know I should be afraid, but all I feel is a surge of determination. I reach out, my fingers grasping for the tentacle's surface, my mind racing as I try to think of some way to stop it, to save Varikka. But as I do, I feel the ground shift beneath me once again, and I know that the tower is on the verge of collapse. I have only one chance to save Varikka, and I must act quickly before it's too late. I spot a large underwater cavern in the distance, and I realize that the tentacle seems to be heading towards it. Do I follow the tentacle into the cavern, risking getting lost in its labyrinthine depths? Or do I try to find another way to rescue Varikka, to pull her free from the creature's grasp before she is dragged down into the lake's murky abyss? I know that whatever I decide, time is running out. The tower groans and creaks around me, its ancient stones shifting and settling as the structure comes closer and closer to collapse. I have only moments to make a choice, and the wrong one could mean death for all of us.

Seraphine · Wizard

I hear Merrin's desperate calls echoing through the water-filled chamber, her voice muffled but unmistakable. My heart clenches with fear for Varikka, but I know that right now, we must focus on stopping this tower from collapsing on us all. The ancient magic animating the structure is more potent than anything I've ever encountered, and I fear it will not only bury us but unleash some terrible power if left unchecked. I push myself off the slick stone floor, my muscles screaming in protest as I force my way through the water towards where Merrin's voice last sounded.
"Merrin!" I call back, my voice strained and thin under the crushing pressure of the water and the groaning of the collapsing tower. "Varikka is... she's gone. Dragged down by that creature in the lake. We have to get out of here, now!"
My words feel inadequate, a poor substitute for the grim reality we face. I know Merrin will be devastated by the loss of her friend, but there is no time for grief, not with the entire structure coming down around our ears. I swim harder, my strokes powerful and determined despite the exhaustion weighing on me.
"I think I saw a way out," I shout over the roar of falling debris, pointing towards a dark tunnel that seems to lead upwards, away from the worst of the collapse. "It's risky, but it might be our only chance. Are you with me?"
I don't wait for an answer. I can see the sheer desperation in Merrin's eyes as she fights to keep her head above water, and I know she has no choice but to follow me. We must work together if we are to survive this. I take a deep breath and dive down, swimming hard towards the tunnel entrance, my mind already racing with the spells I might need to clear our path.
As I near the opening, I feel a sudden jolt, and the ground beneath me shifts again. The water around me churns violently, and I struggle to maintain my balance. A wave of panic washes over me as I realize the tunnel is starting to fill with water. We are out of time.
"Merrin!" I scream, my voice lost in the roar of the collapsing structure. "It's filling up! We have to go now or we'll be trapped!"
I push myself forward with all my remaining strength, swimming with frantic desperation towards the tunnel mouth. The water is rising rapidly, and I can feel its icy tendrils wrapping around my legs, threatening to pull me under. Merrin swims beside me, her face a mask of determination and fear, and together we plunge into the darkness of the tunnel, praying it will lead us to safety before the entire world comes crashing down on top of us.
