Round 76 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin yanks at the rope with all her might, grunting and groaning as she tries to pull Varikka closer. The creature's tentacles lash out once more, striking Merrin with a crushing blow that sends her tumbling to the ground. As she struggles to get back up, the platform creaks ominously beneath her feet, threatening to collapse at any moment. Water crashes over her face, filling her lungs and making it hard to breathe. Seraphine's eyes flutter open, wide with fear and pain, as she clutches the staff tightly in her hand. She reaches out a trembling hand, offering it to Merrin, who desperately needs a lifeline. The rising water is now waist-deep, and the ground shudders violently as the tower collapses around them.
I let out a shout of alarm as Seraphine is pulled under by the creature, her staff slipping from my grasp. The water churns around me, threatening to drag me down as well. I struggle against its pull, my limbs leaden and exhausted. "Seraphine!" I scream, my voice lost in the roar of the flood.
But even as I fight to reach her, I know it's futile. The creature is too strong, the water too deep. And now, with Seraphine gone and the platform crumbling around me, I'm left alone to face whatever horrors still lurk in these depths.
I can't see Varikka through the churning water, but I know she's still down there, fighting for her life against that creature. My heart pounds in my chest as I struggle to my feet, the rope still tangled around my arm. It tugs at me, threatening to pull me back into the water at any moment. I glance around wildly, searching for a way out of this nightmare.
The water churns around me, cold and unforgiving. I can feel the creature's tentacles slashing through the murky depths, seeking out its prey. The platform groans ominously beneath my feet, threatening to collapse at any moment. My heart hammers in my chest as I struggle to maintain my balance, the staff clutched tightly in my hands. "Varikka!" I call out, my voice lost in the roar of the flood.
But there's no answer, only the deafening sound of the water and the creaking of the wood. I know she must still be down there, fighting for her life against that monster. The thought sends a chill through me, colder than the icy water surrounding me. We were supposed to be here together, working as a team, not separated by the very thing we came to destroy.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. I have to stay focused if I'm going to get Varikka out of this mess. The staff hums with power in my hands, a familiar sensation that brings a small measure of comfort amidst the chaos. It's not much, but it's something to hold onto as the world falls apart around us.
I glance up at the crumbling walls of the tower, watching as chunks of stone and debris fall into the water below. The air is thick with dust and the scent of decaying things, a smell that seems to cling to everything in this forsaken place. I know we can't stay here much longer. The entire structure could come down on top of us at any moment.
I turn my attention back to the water, scanning its surface for any sign of movement. The creature's tentacles are still thrashing around, but I see no sign of Varikka. A fresh wave of fear washes over me as I realize she could be anywhere in these dark depths, trapped or even worse. "Varikka!" I shout again, my voice strained and desperate now.
The platform gives another ominous creak, and I feel myself losing my footing. I stumble forward, the staff slamming into the water with a loud splash that sends droplets flying. My hands scramble for purchase on the slick wood, but it's no use. The force of the current is too strong, and I feel myself being pulled back into the water.
I gasp as the cold liquid fills my mouth and nose, choking me. I thrash my arms and legs, trying to fight against the pull, but it's useless. The staff slips from my grasp, plunging into the depths below. Panic rises in my throat as I struggle to stay afloat, my lungs burning with the need for air.
Just when I think all hope is lost, I feel a strong hand close around my wrist. It's Varikka, her face breaking the surface of the water beside me. Her eyes are wide with fear, but there's a determined set to her jaw as she pulls me towards her. "Hold on!" she gasps, her voice strained.
Together, we fight our way back to the platform, clinging to its edges for dear life. The water is waist-deep now, and I can feel the ground trembling beneath my feet with every passing second. We need to get out of here, and fast. "We have to find a way up," I say, my voice a hoarse whisper.
Varikka nods, her gaze fixed on the crumbling stone steps leading up the wall. The creature's tentacles are still thrashing around, blocking our path. But if we can just make it past them, we might be able to escape this nightmare.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I know I must do next. The staff is gone, but I still have my wits about me. And right now, that's the only weapon we have left. "We need to work together," I say, turning to face Varikka. She meets my gaze, a silent understanding passing between us. We were brought here by fate, and now, it seems, our survival depends on each other.
