Merrin screamed as the tentacles pulled Seraphine under, her voice lost in the roar of the flood. The halfling rogue fought against the pull of the water, her limbs leaden and exhausted from their ordeal. She struggled to keep her head above the rising tide, her fingers clawing at the slick wood of the platform as it groaned beneath her. The sound of cracking stone filled the air as a nearby section of the wall gave way, sending a massive boulder crashing into the water with a deafening roar. Merrin's heart raced as she realized the full extent of their predicament. She was trapped on a crumbling platform above a lake of darkness, her friends scattered and in danger, and the entire tower collapsing around them. The water continued to rise, now waist-deep and growing deeper by the second. She could feel the current tugging at her legs, threatening to pull her under as it had done to Seraphine moments before.

What am I supposed to do? Merrin thought desperately, her mind racing through the limited options available to her. I can't swim in this mess, and even if I could, what good would it do? Varikka's trapped by that creature, and now Seraphine too. And Halie... where is she? Is she even still alive? The thought sent a fresh wave of panic through the halfling rogue. She knew she had to act quickly, but every option seemed worse than the last. The water was already too deep to wade through safely, and swimming in it felt like inviting whatever horrors lurked below to claim her as their next victim.

Focus, Merrin told herself firmly, trying to push aside the rising terror. Think. What do I know? What can I use? Her eyes darted around the platform, taking in every detail of their surroundings. The water was indeed rising rapidly, but it wasn't uniform—there were still patches of relative safety if she could just reach them. And then there was the rope...
