The tower's ancient magic pulsed through its stones like a living heartbeat, each beat sending fresh tremors through the already unstable foundation. The ground heaved beneath their feet, buckling and twisting as if the very earth was trying to shake them loose.

Halie dropped to her knees beside Merrin, grabbing the halfling's cloak in both hands. "Stay still!" she shouted over the groaning stone, her voice barely audible above the cacophony. The fabric strained dangerously under Merrin's weight as the cleric scrambled for purchase on the slick surface.

Seraphine completed her spell with a final gesture, and the air crackled around her, charged with visible energy that made the hairs on everyone's arms stand upright. The runes on the gate flared to blinding intensity, and then—silence. For one heart-stopping moment, nothing happened. And then the thrumming began.

It started low, a deep vibration that seemed to come from everywhere at once, resonating in their bones and teeth. The floor beneath them began to shift rhythmically, rising and falling in time with the growing resonance. Merrin cried out as she lost her footing again, sliding several feet across the slick stone before slamming into a protruding piece of masonry.

"Everyone, watch your step!" the rogue called out, her voice strained as she fought to maintain balance. The air grew thick, charged with an energy that made it hard to breathe properly. Whatever spell Seraphine had cast, it was clear it had awakened something ancient and powerful within the tower's stone heart.

Jeane felt the magic pressing against her skin like a physical weight, making her wings twitch instinctively before she forced them still. The demonic blood in her veins thrummed in sync with the tower's resonance, a sensation that was both exhilarating and terrifying. She grit her teeth, fighting the urge to lash out telekinetically at whatever was causing it—useless in these cramped quarters, a reminder of her own inadequacy in direct combat.

The guardian's shadowy form seemed to grow larger still, its staff pulsing with dark energy that matched the thrumming resonance filling the chamber. Varikka shifted her stance, mace at the ready, while Halie clutched her holy symbol tighter, her face pale with fear and determination.

"Everyone, stay close!" the paladin shouted over the growing cacophony. "Whatever this is, we need to stick together!"

The floor heaved again, more violently this time, sending cracks snapping across the already unstable surface like spiderwebs under pressure. A section near the gate began to collapse inward, revealing a glimpse of darkness beyond. The thrumming intensified further, and suddenly—silence.

For one brief moment, everything went still. The air crackled with tension, the magic pressing in from all sides. And then, with a sound like the earth itself screaming—the floor beneath them gave way entirely.
