Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane's wings ruffle softly as she steps forward, her movements fluid despite the fatigue weighing on her muscles. This gate bears the sigils of the Dark Compact—precisely what Elric warned us about in his notes. Those runes are not mere locks; they're alive, bound to the tower by dark pacts and blood magic. The violet light plays across her pale skin, highlighting the intricate tattoos that swirl beneath. Halie's right: something feeds this gate. We need to disable it without breaking those sigils or triggering whatever guardian is bound to them. Seraphine, did you notice which rune seems central to their pattern? She extends a hand, tracing arcane symbols in the air with glowing red lines that briefly intersect with the gate's violet light.

Let me attempt a dispel—targeted, controlled. If it reacts violently, we fall back and reassess. Merrin, Varikka, be ready to engage any summoned guardians while Halie and I provide cover fire. Her voice is calm, commanding. This won't be pleasant magic, but it's necessary. Brace yourselves.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I approach the gate, my heavy mace held loosely in one hand, my silver holy symbol of the Goddess of Light clutched in the other. The violet glow makes my skin crawl—this is dark magic of the foulest kind, twisting and profaning the very stones themselves. I close my eyes briefly, offering a silent prayer for guidance and protection against the undead taint that surely lingers within. "Seraphine," I say, my voice steady despite the apprehension coiling in my gut, "which rune is the primary ward? If we can disrupt its flow without triggering a full-scale defense, we might avoid alerting whatever lies beyond." I reach out with the holy symbol, holding it close to the gate where she indicated, careful not to touch the cursed metal itself. A faint warmth emanates from the silver, barely perceptible against the chill that seeps from the stones. "Jeane, are there any protective spells you can cast on us? Something to ward off spiritual corruption or slow the advance of undead if they do spawn?" I ask, already scanning the ground for signs of disturbed earth or hidden mechanisms—a cleric's eyes always seek the practical answers first. The wind carries a new sound—fingers scraping stone from somewhere within the tower. It's faint, but it's there. "We need to move quickly and quietly," I murmur, more to myself than anyone else. "Stay close. If this goes wrong, formation will be our only defense."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I sidle up to the gate, my eyes darting over the pulsing runes. "Looks like we've got our work cut out for us," I mutter, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice. "These sigils are moving on their own, like a nest of angry wasps." I fish out my lockpicks, fingers working deftly over the tools. "Guess it's time to see if these will do more than pick ordinary locks."

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I approach the towering gate, my eyes narrowing as I study its intricate runes. The violet light pulses like a heartbeat, casting an eerie glow over the weathered stone. "These aren't just sigils of protection," I murmur to myself, running a gloved finger over the cold metal surface. "They're wards of binding and control."
My gaze sweeps across the complex patterns, each one telling a story of dark sorcery and ancient power. I can almost feel the weight of the blood magic that created them, heavy and oppressive in the air.
"It's a puzzle box," I say aloud, turning to address the others. My voice is calm, but there’s an underlying current of excitement beneath it. "And we need to find the key."
I retrieve my spellbook from my pack, flipping through the pages until I find the section on runic analysis. It's a delicate art, one that requires precision and patience, but right now, it feels like our only hope of entry. I hold up the book, showing the others the complex diagrams within.
"If we can decipher these runes, we might be able to unlock the gate without triggering its defenses. But it won't be easy."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I heft my heavy mace as I eye the pulsing violet runes on the gate. "This ain't no ordinary lock," I grunt, "but it looks like we've got no choice but to crack it open if we want to get inside." I step closer, examining the sigils more carefully. The air around them seems to shimmer with dark energy. I can practically feel it crawling on my skin. "Careful now," I warn the others, "I don't trust anything about this place. Those runes look like they're just waiting for an excuse to come alive and bite us." I tap the gate with the haft of my mace, half expecting it to move at my touch. But the gate remains still, for now. I give a curt nod to Merrin. "Alright, go ahead and give those locks a try. But keep your wits about you - I've got a bad feeling about what's waiting on the other side of this door."
