The pool's magic surges, and a wave of distorted reality washes over Merrin and Varrika. The figure in the pool begins to take shape, its features becoming clearer with each passing moment. The reflection of Merrin shows a figure running from a pack of wolves, while Varrika's reflection depicts a figure drowning in a sea of darkness. The Voice's voice echoes in their minds, "Welcome, mortals, to the realm of the pool. Here, your deepest fears will be revealed, and your true worthiness will be tested."

Merrin's eyes widen as she realizes that her reflection is about to come to life. She can see the wolves closing in on her, their jaws snapping mere inches from her face. Varrika's expression is grim as she prepares to face her own fears. The pool's magic grows stronger, and the air is filled with an eerie whispering, making it harder to think clearly. The Voice continues to speak, its voice echoing in Merrin and Varrika's minds, "You will be forced to confront your deepest fears and overcome them. If you succeed, you will be granted a reward beyond your wildest dreams. But if you fail, you will be consumed by the very fears that haunt you."

Merrin takes a deep breath and readies her crossbow, preparing to face whatever terrors await her. Varrika grips her mace tightly, ready to defend herself against whatever darkness threatens to engulf her. The pool's magic surges once more, and the figure in the pool begins to take form. Merrin and Varrika can see that it is a massive, tentacled creature with glowing red eyes. The creature's gaze fixes on them, and it begins to speak in a voice that sends shivers down their spines. "You will be my first test," the creature hisses. "You must confront your deepest fears and overcome them if you hope to progress."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I stare at the monstrous figure emerging from the pool, my heart pounding in my chest. Its tentacles writhe and twist, its eyes glowing like embers in the darkness. I can feel the weight of my crossbow in my hands, the familiar shape of it against my palm a small comfort in the face of such overwhelming terror.

I glance over at Varrika, seeing the same grim determination on her face. We've faced many dangers together, but never anything quite like this. Whatever this test is, whatever horrors the Voice has in store for us... we'll face them together. Just like always.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what's to come. "Alright then," I mutter, my voice low and dangerous. "Let's see what this thing wants. But stay sharp, Varrika. And keep your mace at the ready."

With that, I raise my crossbow, aiming it squarely at the creature's head. The figure seems to notice, its eyes narrowing as it fixes its gaze on me.

"You will be my first test," the creature hisses, its voice sending shivers down my spine. "You must confront your deepest fears and overcome them if you hope to progress."

I swallow hard, my finger hovering over the trigger of my crossbow. Whatever this thing is, whatever horrors it has in store for us... I will not go down without a fight. And neither will Varrika. Together, we will face whatever comes next.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I raise my mace, the heavy weight of it in my hand a comforting presence against the unknown dangers that lurk beneath the surface of the pool. The tentacled creature before us seems to notice, its eyes narrowing as it fixes its gaze on me.

"You will be my first test," the creature hisses, its voice sending shivers down my spine. "You must confront your deepest fears and overcome them if you hope to progress."

I swallow hard, my grip tightening on the mace. Whatever this thing is, whatever horrors it has in store for us... I will not go down without a fight. And neither will Merrin.

I glance over at the rogue, seeing the same grim determination on her face. We've faced many dangers together, but never anything quite like this. Whatever this test is, whatever challenges the Voice has in store for us... we'll face them together. Just like always.

I take a step forward, my footfalls echoing in the cavernous space. The warning etched into the rocks seems to fade away, swallowed up by the pulsing magic of the pool. And as I approach its shimmering surface, I can't shake the feeling that we're about to cross a line from which there's no return.

But I have faced worse than this in my time as a warrior. I have stared down demons and monsters of all kinds, and emerged victorious. This creature may be powerful, but it is nothing compared to the strength of my will.

I raise my mace high, ready to strike if necessary. "Alright then," I say, my voice firm and resolute. "Let's see what this thing wants. But stay sharp, Merrin. And keep your crossbow at the ready."

And with that, I turn back towards the pool, my eyes fixed on the tentacled creature before me. Whatever comes next, whatever horrors the Voice has in store... we will face them together. Just like always.
