Merrin steadies herself against the ancient stone wall, her heart still racing from their harrowing descent. The book clutched tightly to her chest pulses with an unsettling energy, its power seeming to thrum in sync with her own quickened heartbeat. "Well," she mutters, more to herself than to Varrika, "that was certainly less than ideal." The dwarf woman's iron grip on her shoulder loosens slightly, and Merrin finds herself grateful for the solid presence beside her.

Varrika's scarred face is set in a grim mask of concentration as she surveys their surroundings. The crumbling walls of the hidden chamber rise up around them, ancient stonework covered in swirling patterns that seem to move and shift in the dim light. "Less than ideal? Try suicidal," the dwarf growls, her voice a low rumble in the still air. "What manner of sorcery is this?" Merrin opens her mouth to respond, but before she can speak, the book in her arms gives another insistent pulse.

A soft glow begins to emanate from its pages, casting eerie shadows across the stone walls. The symbols etched into the rock seem to absorb the light, pulsing in response as if awakened by the tome's power. "By the ancestors," Varrika breathes, taking a step back and reaching for her mace instinctively. "What have you unleashed here, little one?" Merrin swallows hard, her fingers tightening around the book's binding. "I... I'm not entirely sure," she admits, her voice barely above a whisper. "But whatever it is, I have a feeling we're about to find out."
