Phase: escalating

The air crackled with ozone, the humming energy intensifying until it felt like teeth were vibrating against Merrin’s skull. The sudden collapse behind them sent a shower of sparks and debris cascading down, coating everything in a thin layer of dust that tasted of age and decay. Serrine’s scream tore through the oppressive silence, sharp and terrified. Merrin lunged forward instinctively, her hand outstretched towards the falling woman. The floor gave way beneath Serrine with a sickening crack, a section crumbling away to reveal darkness below.
“Serrine!” The rogue’s cry echoed off the ancient stone walls, her voice raw with fear and desperation. She could see the terror in Serrine’s eyes, the way her friend’s lips formed that single, chilling word: “Father...” Varrika moved with the brutal efficiency of a veteran warrior, grabbing Serrine’s arm and hauling her back onto solid ground with a grunt of effort. The healer was pale, trembling, her connection to the crystal below clearly exerting some horrifying influence.
“Serrine,” Merrin gasped, helping to steady her friend as they pulled her away from the edge. “What happened? What did you see?” But Serrine could only shake her head, her eyes wide with terror, unable to speak coherently. The runes on the walls pulsed faster now, their ancient magic responding to the disturbance.
“We need to get out of here,” Varrika growled, her gaze fixed on the crystal below. “This place is getting worse by the minute.” The air around them felt thick with power, the humming energy growing stronger with each passing moment.
