The chamber's air feels thick with unspoken tension as the two women confront the unexpected figure below. Seraphine descends carefully, her robes whispering against stone, while Jeane follows with a predator's grace, her wings shifting beneath her cloak.

Kael stands near one of the flickering torches, his presence an enigma in the gloom. The sound of rushing water echoes through the chamber, a constant reminder of the rising floodwaters above. Seraphine's keen eyes take in every detail—his posture, the way he holds himself, the barely visible features beneath his hood.

"You seek to escape," Kael states without preamble, his voice carrying an unsettling resonance that seems to reverberate through the stone walls themselves. "I can offer guidance... for a price." His gaze shifts to Jeane, lingering on her with an intensity that makes the succubus' hand tighten around her mace.

Jeane steps forward, her cloak parting slightly to reveal the gleam of dark leathery wings. The stone shard still embedded in her leg pulses with a dull ache, but she ignores it, focusing on the potential threat before them. "What kind of guidance?" she growls, her voice barely human.

Seraphine places herself between Kael and Jeane, her staff held ready despite knowing its magic is spent. "We're not interested in deals or prices," she says, her tone sharp with suspicion. "Just tell us how to get out of here alive."

Kael's laughter fills the chamber, a sound that seems to come from everywhere at once. "Oh, but you are interested," he purrs. "You simply don't know it yet." He extends a hand toward them, and a swirl of darkness coalesces above his palm, forming into a complex geometric pattern that pulses with an otherworldly light. "This is the key to your escape... if you can solve its riddle."

The puzzle box hovers between them now, its surface shifting and changing as they watch. Seraphine feels a chill run down her spine—this thing reeks of ancient power, the kind that usually comes with deadly consequences for those who meddle with it.

Jeane's eyes narrow as she studies the box, her succubus nature drawn to the promise of power even as her human sensibilities scream warnings. "What's your game, shadow-man?" she hisses, taking a half-step forward before Seraphine's outstretched arm stops her.

Before either woman can respond further, the sound of stone grinding against stone echoes from above. The creature is moving again, its presence a looming threat that neither Kael nor his puzzle box can fully distract them from. Time is running out—and they're trapped in a chamber with a potential ally who might be just as dangerous as the monster hunting them.

The air grows colder still, and Seraphine feels a familiar dread settle over her. They need to make a decision, and fast. But with Jeane injured and volatile, their options are limited, and every choice comes with a price they may not be willing to pay.
