Narrator

Narrator · Narrator

Silra’s dagger glints as she steps forward, voice low and threatening. The gravedigger Renn’s shoulders tense, his eyes darting to the storm‑dark sky before locking onto her. He stammers, “I… I’m just digging. No one’s—” but the tremor in his voice betrays fear. The city guard’s distant shout echoes, and a sudden gust of ash blows across the road, scattering embers like tiny fireflies. Renn’s words falter, and he drops the shovel, clutching it to his chest as if it might shield him from unseen danger.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane stands, letting the rusty iron key dangle from her fingers as she addresses Renn directly. 'This is a city of the dead, gravedigger. You're not here by accident.' She makes a subtle gesture with her free hand—a flick of the wrist that seems almost casual but is clearly a spell component—'And know that honesty serves you better than...'

Renn's eyes fix on the key, and for an instant, his fear seems to sharpen into something more specific—fear mixed with recognition.

Silra

Silra · Rogue

Silra stepped closer, her voice carrying an edge of bored menace—she wasn't here to make friends, especially not with jumpy gravediggers who were clearly digging up more than dirt. The ash storm picked up, swirling around them like a bad omen. She pointed at the disturbed earth with her dagger tip. 'You've been watching us for longer than polite etiquette allows. That shovel isn't just for show—you're not digging graves here, are you? You're clearing something out.' Her eyes were sharp, missing nothing—like she could see through lies as easily as through the swirling ash.

Sister Hale

Sister Hale · Cleric

Sister Hale steps between Silra and the gravedigger, her voice softening. 'Please, we're not here to cause trouble. We seek only to rebuild what was lost.' She gestures toward the distant church ruins with a gesture of peace, her unholy symbol catching what little light filters through the ash storm. The gravedigger's fear is palpable, and she feels a pang of sympathy—he clearly knows something about this place that terrifies him.
