Phase: escalating

The stormy night air outside seemed to press in on the inn's common room, casting a sense of urgency over the huddled group. Silra crouched beside Gravedigger Renn, her teal eyes narrowing as she studied his battered form. "You went back down there alone," she repeated, her voice laced with a mix of curiosity and wariness. Sister Hale sat beside them, her silver holy symbol held loosely at her side, her gaze fixed on the ground as if willing it to remain still.
The runes on the wall pulsed with an otherworldly energy, casting an eerie glow over the room. The ground continued to rumble ominously outside, a reminder of the danger that lurked beneath Gravehill. Gravedigger Renn's terror-smell hung heavy in the air, a potent mix of fear and desperation that seemed to cling to him like a shroud.
Sister Hale's voice cut through the tension, her words calm but laced with concern. "Brother, you're alive – that matters more than how you got back here." She reached out a hand, hesitating before touching his shoulder, as if afraid of being drawn into the darkness that had driven him from the tunnel system.
The ground groaned again, its fury unabated, and Silra's gaze snapped to Sister Hale. "Whatever happened down there... that doesn't change our immediate situation: we're still armed, still thinking clearly, and whatever is buried under Gravehill hasn't emerged... yet." The words hung in the air like a challenge, a reminder that they had to make a decision – and fast – before the storm and its secrets consumed them all.
