Phase: escalating

The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and decay, a noxious odor that clung to their skin like a shroud. It had been an eternity since they'd left the ruined city of Gravehill behind, the ash-choked road stretching out before them like a desolate ribbon. The storm-dark sky seemed to press down upon them, its oppressive weight making every step feel like a struggle.
As they trudged forward, the ground beneath their feet began to tremble in a rhythmic pattern, three pulses beating out a warning that echoed through the passage. Gravedigger Renn stumbled again, his eyes wide with terror, as he begged for them to follow him into the darkness of the tunnel. His voice cracked under the strain of fear and desperation.
Jeane's gaze flickered over her companions, her mind racing with the implications of this sudden turn. Silra stepped forward, her silver-blonde hair catching the faint glow of the bioluminescent walls as she moved. The ground trembled beneath her feet, three deliberate thrums that felt less like coincidence and more like someone counting them in.
Sister Hale followed closely behind, her holy symbol gripped tight in one hand while the other stayed loose at her side. The walls pulsed faster now with their movement, pulsing bioluminescent light that reminded her too much of diseased flesh breathing. As they moved forward together, the air thickened with the scent of musky salt and organic decay, a noxious odor that clung to their skin like a shroud.
The three-pulse rhythm beneath their feet continued steady, a deliberate communication or automated warning system response. The tunnel's pulsing bioluminescence cast eerie shadows across the passage, making it seem as though they were being watched by unseen eyes. Ahead of them, the darkness seemed to vibrate with anticipation, waiting for their next move.
