Phase: escalating

The air inside the tunnel entrance vibrated with tension as the party readied themselves to face whatever lay within. Silra moved ahead, her eyes scanning the darkness for any signs of movement or intent, pausing at a fork in the tunnel where she called back to the others: "Wait, I think I see something down here." The ground trembled beneath their feet once more, and the bioluminescent light pulsed faster, illuminating the dark stone walls and the air inside. Sister Hale followed closely behind Jeane, her hand resting on the hilt of her holy symbol, as she watched Silra's every move with a mix of caution and concern.
Jeane stepped back into formation at the tunnel entrance, her crimson eyes scanning both dark passages, her gaze lingering on the fork in the tunnel where Silra had paused. The rhythmic tremors were definitely communication – three-pulse pattern was too deliberate for random seismic activity or cave collapse. The sound of the City Guard approaching grew louder, their hostility towards the party palpable.
As Silra called back over her shoulder, "Hold position at the entrance—whatever's responding to me specifically isn't immediately aggressive, but this fork splits our formation a..." Jeane nodded in agreement, her eyes never leaving the tunnel ahead. Sister Hale stepped back further, her hand tightening around the hilt of her unholy symbol, as she watched the situation unfold with a sense of unease. The ground trembled once more, and the bioluminescent light pulsed faster, illuminating the dark stone walls in an eerie glow.
