Gravedigger Renn's trembling hands clutched the unholy symbol tightly as he pointed frantically at the grating in the ground, where fresh ash continued to spew out. Sister Hale was yanked back toward him despite being dragged by an unseen force, her eyes wide with fear as she struggled against the unseen grip. The city guard leader growled, his hand still resting on the hilt of his sword, "We need to get out of here, now!" The massive chitinous limb emerged from darkness, scrabbling against stone near Jeane's face, sending her stumbling backward as she desperately tried to shield herself.

As the guards closed in, their lanterns casting eerie shadows on the ground, Gravedigger Renn's eyes darted wildly between the tunnel entrance and the approaching city guard. The air was heavy with tension, and the only sound was the soft crunch of ash beneath the guards' feet. Sister Hale stood firm beside him, her voice cutting through the chaos as she shouted over her shoulder, "We need to get Gravedigger Renn inside that church! He knows more than he's saying—I heard him mutter something about 'the awakening'!" The city guard leader snarled, his hand tightening on the hilt of his sword.
