The city guard leader lights the lantern, casting eerie shadows on the ash-choked road. The guards move closer, their hands still resting on their sword hilts, trapping the party between them and the tunnel entrance. Gravedigger Renn trembles, his eyes darting between the guards and the tunnel system below. As the city guard leader instructs his guard to light the lantern, it casts flickering shadows on the ground, revealing a small, rusty key buried in the ash-covered debris. The guard notices it and hands it back to the leader, who examines it carefully before handing it to you, the DM. The party exchanges panicked glances, and the city guard leader growls, "We need to get out of here, now!" He takes a step back, his hand tightening on his sword hilt. The guards move closer, trapping the party between them and the tunnel entrance. Suddenly, the sound of scuttling claws scraping against stone echoes from beneath the street, followed by a faint whispering voice: "The awakening...the awakening..."
