Phase: resolution · forced · organic escalating

As the low-pitched hum emanated from within the stone-skin creature's chest, its body began to shift and ripple like a living thing, revealing glimpses of something dark and formless beneath its surface. The air around it vibrated with an otherworldly energy, sending shivers down Silra's spine. The creature's voice, a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the ground, spoke of a Devourer: "Whatever is behind us... will consume everythi..." The words hung in the air like a challenge, and Silra caught Sister Hale's stern look with a flicker of something sharp and almost amused. She recognized that expression from countless lectures about overconfidence and reckless behavior.
"Oh, I heard you loud and clear last time," Silra said, her tone carrying a smirk despite the seriousness of their situation. "And yes, I do seem to have a knack for walking into situations that would make most people reconsider their life choices." She shifted her weight slightly, never taking her eyes off the creature as it continued to speak in a low rumble: "Whatever is behind us... will consume everythi..." The words echoed through the storm-dark sky, and Silra felt a shiver run down her spine.
Sister Hale stepped forward, placing herself between Silra and the creature. Her voice was firm as she spoke directly to the stone-skin creature: "I understand what you're trying to do—you want to be thorough before committing to an alliance—but we don't have luxury of careful observation right now." The cleric's eyes were fixed intently on the creature, her expression a mix of concern and determination. As she turned her attention fully to the creature, her voice took on a note of urgency: "Whatever that thing is behind us? It sounds like it's almost here, and our terrified friend here just said something very interesting—it called whatever's coming a Devourer."
