Phase: escalating

As Silra spoke, her words hung in the air, punctuated only by the faint rumble of shifting stone beneath their feet. The ground shuddered again, and the sound of shifting stone filled the air, growing louder with each passing moment. Suddenly, a section of the stairs gave way, and the ground opened up into a hidden chamber below. A dark, swirling mist rose from the depths, its tendrils curling around the edges of the chasm like grasping fingers.
Sister Hale stepped back from the edge, her symbol still pulsing with a slow, warning rhythm against her palm. She watched Silra with a practiced eye, as the rogue woman moved with purpose, testing the ground and checking the crystal shard's edge. The mist rising from the chamber below smelled wrong, like old rot and something else that defied identification. Hale's exhaustion was real, but her symbol had been screaming warnings since the stairs shifted. Whatever lay beneath, it was conscious, and it seemed to be waiting.
The air was heavy with tension as they stood at the edge of the hidden chamber, the ground still pulsing with energy from the ritual that had shaken the city. The sound of shifting stone echoed through the tunnels like a living entity, and Hale's eyes flicked toward the stairs, searching for any signs of hidden patterns or warning signs. Silra, meanwhile, stood poised at the edge, her eyes fixed on the mist-shrouded depths below, her hand still resting near her dagger.
