As Sister Hale pushes open the service door, a musty scent wafts out, accompanied by the faint glow of bioluminescent moss illuminating the dark corridor beyond. Silra steps forward, her eyes scanning the passageway for any signs of danger or hidden traps. The air inside is stale, but it's clear that someone has recently passed through this entrance, perhaps even recently.
The ground beneath their feet grows increasingly unstable as they venture deeper into the church structure, the tremors from earlier having taken on a more deliberate quality. Sister Hale meets Silra's gaze, her expression resolute. "Alright then," she says, "Let's proceed with caution." The rusted key from a dead magistrate hangs around Jeane's neck, a tangible reminder of the risks they're about to take.
As they navigate the twisting corridors, Jeane finds herself falling through darkness, time stretching impossibly as she descends into stone that's unnaturally cold against her skin. She impacts hard on something wet and yielding, not earth. The sensation is disorienting, but she quickly processes that the floor gave way beneath her because someone wanted it to give way beneath her specifically – a deliberate invitation or execution delivered with architectural precision. Her body aches from the fall, but nothing's broken that won't heal quickly.
