Silra's fingers trace the seam as it opens soundlessly—revealing a descending staircase cut directly into the church foundation. The stone is older than the building above, covered in symbols that make her skin crawl with wrongness. She glances up to assess formation: Sister Hale confronting the entity head-on with unholy symbol raised, Jeane maintaining barrier position behind them both, the surrounding cult figures shifting restlessly like a pack of animals waiting for a command. The wet-dragging sounds from inside the walls are getting closer—something is definitely moving through the wall cavities now. She can hear multiple entities shuffling and scraping against wood and stone just inches away on either side.

Silra kneels carefully at the edge of the new opening, pressing her unlit lantern down into darkness below. The stairs go straight down—I can't see bottom in this light. Her voice is measured, professional. Whatever built these is older than the church—probably older than the village itself. We're standing on top of something that predates our entire settlement. She looks back at Sister Hale and Jeane over her shoulder. The stonework down there... it's not human hands. The angles are wrong, the joints too precise for chisels. This is deliberate construction—someone or something wanted a direct connection between the church basement and whatever sleeps under the village.

Her rogue training screams at her to back away from the opening immediately—but the tactical part of her brain is already calculating descent options. The wet-dragging sounds inside the walls stop moving when she focuses attention on them, as if they're aware of being watched. She can feel pressure building in the floor around her—something massive shifting weight below ground level. Silra stands slowly, dusting off her hands. The thing downstairs knows we're here now. It feels us standing on top of it.
