Round 9

Phase: escalating

As Jeane and Sister Hale engage the leader-entity in dialogue, the surrounding figures begin shifting restlessly—clearly unnerved by prey speaking with anything other than terror. The thing tilts its head further, joints clicking audibly as it processes their words. "Not prey? You mistake your position—all who enter here eventually become part of our collection, whether by choice or by force. We have been... persistent in our hospitality." It gestures toward the wet-dragging sounds beginning inside the walls. "The walls themselves will feed you to us if necessary—though I see no need for such... messiness when you're already proving so cooperative."
Jeane watches Silra work methodically along the floor seams—calculating risk vs reward in real time. Her voice carries command despite the grinding pressure of their deadline: Twenty seconds becomes ten, which means we need to escalate this negotiation before it defaults to violence we can't win. She raises her unholy symbol higher, ward lines pulsing with defensive energy that pushes back against the oppressive wrongness in the air. Sister Hale's bluff about resuming worship is holding for now—but every second counts.
Silra crouches low and presses her ear against the cold stone floor—calmly analytical despite the oppressive atmosphere. The shifting floor stopped when we entered the main hall—that means whatever's underneath is aware of our presence now, which changes everything. Her teal eyes scan for structural weaknesses—any seam or joint that might reveal what lies beneath. If there's a thing down there listening to this conversation, I need to know how thick these walls are between us and it.
Wet-dragging sounds intensify inside the walls surrounding them—something moving through the plaster and stone with disturbing ease. The leader-entity watches Jeane and Hale with unblinking attention, joints clicking in a rhythm that suggests something calculating their next move.
