The ground beneath your feet begins to tremble with increasing intensity, the ward stones vibrating harder now as the ancient horror's awareness focuses fully on your presence. The creature tilts back slightly, its featureless face turning toward each of you in sequence—those glowing points fixating with obvious predatory interest.

"Your curiosity serves you poorly," it hisses, "but also efficiently." Its tentacles retract slowly, coiling back into the earth around its form as though preparing for something. "You seek understanding rather than mere escape—that is... amusing."

Sister Hale steps forward instinctively, her hand tightening around her mace handle even as she feels her holy symbol grow cold against her skin. The profanity of this place warps even divine metal.

"Ancestors guide me," she breathes, more prayer than statement. "Tell us what you are—truly—and why my bloodline interests you."

Silra crouches beside the ward stones, tracing connections between them with practiced fingers while her brain pieces together what she’s seeing. The system isn't what it seems—it's not designed for containment at all.

"This is a fucking energy harvesting array," she mutters, voice tight with calculation rather than fear. "Every stone feeds into that spire, which means—oh shit, the rotating mechanism isn't just aesthetic. It's a goddamn transformer."

Jeane moves closer to examine the same patterns, her demonic eyes narrowing as she traces the connections. The manor house isn’t just connected; it’s part of the fucking apparatus.

"Then we're standing inside a containment system?" Sister Hale asks, horror and grim determination mixing in her voice. "And this creature needs us for… recalibration?"

Jeane looks up at the ancient horror, her expression showing horrified calculation rather than outright panic. "This whole place is a goddamn altar—just a larger version of what’s under the church."
