The blueprints spread across the table offered no easy answers, only more complications. Silra leaned over them, her slender fingers tracing lines of precise engineering—Jeane's work, meticulous and elegant in its own way. But the underlying requirements chafed. Proximity. Collaboration on 'intimate projects.' Hours spent working side by side, breathing each other’s air.

"This is actually not terrible," she admitted grudgingly, frustration evident in her tone. "But it still relies on us working in close quarters for extended periods. That's exactly what got us into this mess last time." Her amber eyes lifted to meet Jeane's across the table, sharp and unyielding. The sight of those wings unfurling always made her skin crawl—half admiration, half revulsion for a creature designed solely to exploit desire and trust.

"You want us to build this thing together?" Silra asked, her voice tight with barely contained frustration. "Great. So we're back to being in each other's space, breathing each other's air, for hours on end. How is that different from what the building wants? At least before, we had some control over when and how it happened."

Abby nodded slowly, her expression troubled. "I think Hera might be right," she said softly, her voice so quiet it was almost lost in the humming of the building around them. The air in the penthouse suite felt thick with tension—a strange stew of scientific curiosity and sexual undercurrent. "That sounds an awful lot like what we're trying to avoid."

Hera leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms defensively. "Look, I appreciate the effort," she said, her tone skeptical. "But if this contraption needs all of us working together, side by side, isn't that functionally the same as what we've been doing? Close physical contact for hours on end?"

Silra's jaw clenched, but she couldn't deny the logic. "Fuck," she muttered under her breath. "You're right. I didn't think it through enough."

The blueprints seemed to mock them—solutions without solutions, escape routes that led back to the same damn problem. The building's demands echoed through the walls, a low thrum of need that set their teeth on edge. Time was running out, and they were no closer to a real answer than when they'd started.

The schematics lay scattered across the table like fallen leaves—complicated, beautiful, utterly useless. The penthouse suite felt smaller by the minute, the air thick with unspoken tension and the building's insistent hum. Silra rubbed her temples, feeling the beginnings of a headache. "Okay, new plan," she said finally, her voice tight but determined. "We focus on the mechanical aspects we can do separately—welding, cutting metal, whatever doesn't require constant proximity. And when we absolutely have to work together, we set strict boundaries. No touching unless necessary for the task. No... lingering looks or comments."

Abby nodded, relief evident in her posture. "That sounds... manageable," she said hesitantly. "Though I have to admit, I'm still not entirely clear on what the building actually wants from us."

Hera snorted. "Neither am I, kid. But as long as it doesn't involve me getting my ass grabbed by a succubus while trying to install a fucking bracket, I'll call it progress."

Silra couldn't help but smirk at that. "Deal," she said, extending her hand across the table. "Let's get this shit done before we all lose our minds—or something worse happens."

One by one, they shook on it—a fragile pact against the building's insatiable demands. The schematics remained spread across the table, a monument to their ingenuity and their ongoing struggle for control. But for now, at least, they had a plan. And that was something.
