Phase: escalating

The penthouse suite's heavy curtains barely let any natural light through, the room bathed in that dim intimacy of secrets and deals about to be struck—or broken. Hera stepped forward, positioning herself between Silra and Jeane with a protective instinct that spoke volumes about her growing unease. She wasn't just standing guard—she was drawing a line in the shadows.

"Appreciate your concern for our well-being," Hera ground out, each word measured and deliberate, "but we don't need a contract to protect us. We have each other." The subtext hung thick: she didn't trust Jeane's intentions, didn't buy her promises of protection, and wouldn't let Silra make what Hera clearly saw as a terrible mistake.

Jeane circled Silra again, her movements fluid and controlled, wings stirring the air with subtle shifts that were almost hypnotic. But there was an edge to it now, a barely restrained impatience creeping into her demeanor. She'd had enough of Halie's interference, enough of these delays while Silra weighed options.

"Halie," Jeane purred, and even in the gloom, you could see how the cleric's blood ran cold at that tone. "Your tone suggests you believe this decision rests with you." It wasn't a question—it was a challenge, a reminder of who held power here. And when Halie instinctively backed away half a step despite herself, Jeane's smile widened just fractionally more.

"Oh no, little one," the succubus continued, voice dripping with condescension now, "this is Silra's choice to make alone." She turned her attention back to the elf, who stood watching them both with that same infuriatingly calm expression. What was she thinking? What calculations ran through that technomancer mind?

Silra circled the room twice more before stopping near Halie, her eyes never leaving Jeane. The succubus's wings stirred lazily, almost imperceptibly, but Silra catalogued every shift, every tilt of Jeane's head. She didn't trust easily—especially not creatures who made their living in contracts and consequences.

"You want me to sign a deal for... what? Power?" Silra's voice stayed level, pragmatic. "Pleasure?" A beat passed. "What exactly are you offering, and more importantly, what do you get out of it?" Because that was the crux of it—the price always came due eventually.

Halie stepped forward, positioning herself between Silra and Jeane. She met the succubus's gaze evenly despite her racing heart—she'd faced demons before, after all. 'Silra is my friend,' Halie stated firmly, voice carrying a warning edge. 'I won't let you manipulate her into a decision she'll regret.' She glanced at Silra, noting the elf's carefully controlled expression. 'And you—you don't need to prove anything to this demon. Her promises are empty.'

Halie's voice softened slightly as she addressed her companion directly. 'We can figure this out together...'

The tension in the room was a living thing now, thick and suffocating. Every word chosen carefully, every shift in stance deliberate. This wasn't just negotiation anymore—it was a standoff. And everyone knew it.
