Round 26

Phase: escalating

Silra leaned back against the wall, crossing her arms as she studied the contract laid out on the table between them. "Protection," she repeated, voice cool and analytical. "That's quite a claim. What exactly does that entail?" Her teal eyes locked onto Jeane, searching for tells in that perfectly composed expression.
Halie's hands clenched into fists at her sides, the small silver cross at her throat catching what little light filtered through the room's heavy curtains. "I understand you're cautious," she said, voice tight with barely contained alarm. "As you should be. But this isn't about mere physical protection—it's about your spirit, your autonomy." Her eyes darted to where Hera sat watching, then back to Silra. "The way Jeane looks at you... I've seen that hunger before. It's not just about tonight or tomorrow. It's about forever."
Jeane remained motionless, her crimson eyes unreadable as she let the tension build. Finally, she spoke, voice smooth and patient. "Halie, your concern is touching, truly." The demoness's wings shifted almost imperceptibly, a subtle display of barely restrained power. "But you overstep. Silra is capable of making her own decisions."
Silra's lips curled into something that wasn't quite a smile. "Am I? Or am I just standing here while two supernatural beings argue over my future like I'm a piece on a chessboard?" She pushed off from the wall, moving with predatory grace to circle the impromptu barrier Halie had established. Her eyes missed nothing—the demoness's skin, the way her wings moved, the subtle shifts in expression that might betray underlying intent.
"You want me protected," Silra said, voice soft but sharp as a blade. "Jeane wants... something else entirely." She stopped, facing Halie directly. "And you? What do you really want, my dear cleric?"
Halie's face flushed with anger and embarrassment at being put on the spot so abruptly. "I want—" she began, then stopped, struggling to articulate her protective instinct in the face of Silra's direct challenge.
Jeane cut in smoothly, her voice a velvet caress. "What Halie wants is irrelevant. This isn't about her." The demoness took a step forward, her naked form moving with inhuman grace. "This is between you and me, Silra. Forget about everyone else for a moment—what do YOU want?"
The room went still as everyone waited for Silra's response.
