Round 22

Phase: escalating

Silra leaned over the contract, her teal eyes scanning each line with the practiced efficiency of a rogue who'd seen every trick in the book—and invented a few herself. The language was smooth as silk, promising power and protection in terms so vague they could mean anything from a warm hug to eternal servitude. She glanced up at Halie—her friend's protective stance was both touching and irritating.
"Oh, I'm not trusting it," Silra said dryly, rolling her eyes. "I'm trying to figure out what she's really offering—and what she's hiding." She tapped the paper again with one finger. "For instance, this line here? 'Recipient agrees to provide physical loyalty as defined by Provider'?" Her lips curled into a smirk that was equal parts amusement and calculation. "That's awfully... flexible, don't you think?"
Halie shifted her weight, her hand moving to rest on the hilt of her mace in a gesture that spoke volumes about her discomfort with the situation. "Silra, please," she said, voice tight with barely contained alarm. "You can't seriously be considering this. She's a succubus—seduction is literally her job. Whatever she promises, it comes with strings attached." Her blue-grey eyes locked onto Jeane, a silent warning in their depths.
Silra sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Halie, I appreciate the concern, but I'm not an idiot. I know what Jeane is—what all demons are. That's why I'm being so careful." She turned back to the contract, flipping to the next page. "Besides, think about it from a purely practical standpoint. If she can really protect us from whatever's out there... wouldn't that be worth the risk?"
