Hera's amber eyes locked onto Jeane's crimson gaze, her jaw set in a line of stubborn resolve. "This isn't about my opinion," she snapped, voice tight with barely contained anger. "It's about Silra being able to make choices without you clouding her judgment." She moved closer, stance wide and ready, every inch the protective friend and former soldier. "I don't care how good it feels—there's always a price with your kind. I won't let her pay it."

Abby stood frozen near the wall, her wide brown eyes fixed on the tense standoff between Jeane and Hera. The atmosphere in the room had shifted from charged anticipation to something far more dangerous—a collision course between demon seduction and human loyalty. Her gaze flickered to Silra, still poring over the contract with intense concentration, then back to Halie standing guard between them. Something twisted in her gut—not just fear now, but a confusing mix of jealousy and unwanted attraction. She wanted to understand what was happening, to be part of it somehow, but the tension made her feel small and helpless.

Jeane's wings snapped wide for an instant before settling with a low hiss that spoke volumes about her patience wearing thin. "You're out of your depth, mortal," she purred, voice dripping with venom disguised as velvet. "This isn't your business." Her eyes never left Silra's bowed head as she continued speaking to Hera. "I'm not forcing anyone. She can walk away right now if she chooses. But the offer stands only for so long—are you prepared to take responsibility when something happens to her that I could have prevented?" The implied threat hung heavy in the air.

Hera didn't flinch. "We'll handle our own problems," she growled. "We always have." She glanced at Silra again, then back to Jeane. "And maybe you're right—maybe she can walk away. But so can you. Right now." The challenge was clear in her stance if not her words.

Silra's fingers trembled slightly as she traced the lines of elegant script on the parchment. Every word seemed to pulse with a strange, seductive energy that made her head swim and her skin flush with heat. She could feel the weight of everyone's eyes on her—Jeane's intense focus, Hera's protective glare, Abby's wide-eyed confusion, Halie's steady presence. The terms were simple enough: physical loyalty in exchange for power, protection, and pleasure beyond imagining. But the subtext was clear—once signed, there would be no going back. She'd belong to Jeane in ways that went far beyond mere servitude.

She looked up slowly, meeting Jeane's gaze with an expression that betrayed nothing of the turmoil inside her. "I appreciate the offer," she said finally, voice steady despite the racing of her pulse. "But I need more time to consider. This... this is a big decision." She folded the contract carefully and tucked it back into her jacket pocket, well aware of how Jeane's expression darkened fractionally at the delay.*
