The magical chamber groaned around them, ancient stone grinding against itself in a death rattle of collapsing architecture. Water lapped at the crumbling edges of their precarious platform, each wave a cold reminder that the abyss below was all too eager to claim them both. Jeane pressed her back against the wall, wings half-spread for balance as she watched Abby's eyes shift to gold. The sight sent another fresh wave of dread through her—possession was the last thing they needed right now.

"You can't be serious," Jeane hissed, voice tight with barely contained panic. "We don't know where that leads or what's waiting on the other side." The skeletal dust figures circled closer, their bone-fingered hands reaching out as if to grasp at the air around them. The sorceress' crimson eyes flicked between the advancing horrors and the ominous figure hovering in the watery depths above. She could feel the magic in this place—old, powerful, and utterly alien.

We need to find another way out, she thought desperately, or at least figure out what's going on here. Her own reserves were at critical levels, barely enough to maintain a shield against the skeletal horde for much longer. The portal pulsed again, its light growing brighter as it called to Abby with an insistent pull. The human woman stumbled forward a step, her eyes wide and unfocused.

"Abby!" Jeane snapped, voice sharp with command. "Focus! You're still in control." She reached out, grabbing the smaller woman's hand with iron grip, anchoring her against the encroaching pull of whatever force was trying to claim her. The bone-figures pressed closer, their forms shifting and twisting as they sensed weakening resistance. Jeane gritted her teeth, pouring every ounce of remaining power into a desperate surge that solidified the failing shield just long enough for them to lunge forward.

"Move!" she snarled, yanking Abby with her towards the unstable portal. The barrier collapsed behind them as they crossed the threshold, the world dissolving into swirling chaos.
