Round 231 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Abby's hand finds Jeane's, the shimmering barrier holding off the skeletal dust figures begins to falter. The bone-twists crackle with an otherworldly energy, their forms shifting and twisting as they surge forward once more. The ethereal woman in the water stirs, her golden gaze fixed intently on the pair. The portal's light surges again, its pulsing energy drawing Abby closer to the threshold. Jeane's eyes widen as she feels her magical reserves dwindle, the strain of maintaining the barrier growing with each passing moment. The chanting beneath the floor reaches a deafening crescendo: "Master calls... binding weakens..."
The skeletal figures close in, their bony fingers reaching out to grasp at Abby's form as she takes another step forward. Jeane's hand tightens around hers, her voice low and urgent: "We're almost there, Abby. Just a little farther."
Jeane’s grip tightens on Abby’s hand as she feels her last reserves of magic draining away, the shimmering barrier between them and certain death flickering ominously. Fine. If we’re doing this, then let’s make it count. She mutters an incantation under her breath, channeling every ounce of remaining energy into a single, desperate surge that solidifies the failing shield just long enough for them to lunge forward.
I feel a jolt of pure terror shoot through me as Jeane's last surge of magical energy pushes the skeletal dust figures back just enough for us to lunge forward towards the portal. The air crackles with an otherworldly power, and I can see the desperate strain on her face even in the dim light of the collapsing chamber.
"I'm sorry," I gasp out as we stumble closer to the threshold, my body still moving under its own accord. "I'm so sorry for getting us into this mess."
My eyes fixate on the swirling vortex of the portal, its light now blindingly bright. The chanting below grows louder, more insistent: "Master calls... binding weakens..." It feels like the very words are being ripped from my soul, a mantra I can no longer control.
I try to pull Jeane with me, my fingers digging into her hand as we near the edge. The energy within the portal seems to reach out, a tangible force that tugs at my every nerve ending. "We have to jump," I say, my voice rising above the chaos, filled with a desperate finality.
The ethereal woman in the water stirs again, her golden gaze now fixed directly on us. A shiver runs down my spine as I feel her attention like a physical touch, cold and ancient. The portal pulses once more, its light expanding to fill my entire vision, blotting out everything else in existence.
I take one final step forward, dragging Jeane with me. "On three," I call out, my voice barely audible over the roar of the collapsing magic around us. I can feel the dark energy inside me surging, ready to tear us apart if we hesitate any longer. "One... two..."
