Narrator · Narrator

The ward pulses slow, deliberate now—a predator settling after a meal. Something large shifts weight upstairs; stone groans. The window remains dark, but presence has thickened. Fifteen minutes is gone: you've entered the feeding ground's awareness. The question remains—accelerate into unknown defenses or withdraw before whatever's inside decides how to greet trespassers—but the time for debate shrinks with each heartbeat. The wards' hunger feels sated now, and that changes everything.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch the tower, its dark stones seeming to pulse in time with something deep within. A cold dread settles over me as Jeane's words sink in.
"Whatever's inside... it knows we're here now."
My fingers trace the edges of the spellbook I carry, feeling the worn leather under my touch. The wards aren't just barriers; they're active predators, feeding on some malevolent presence within the structure.
"I can feel it. That... hunger in the magic. It wasn't like that before."
I turn to Merrin and Varrika, my expression grave.
"We need to decide fast. Accelerate entry or retreat while we still can. Either way, time is no longer on our side."

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane descends in slow circles, her wings cutting the air silently. The tower's ward magic pulses beneath her, slow and deliberate now—feeding something large inside. Fifteen minutes until it decides whether we're worth waking for or simply... ignoring. These aren't defenses. They're predators. And whatever sleeps up there has just stirred because its pets caught our scent. >
"We need to move fast," I call down to the others circling the base. "The wards are active—they're hungry—and now something upstairs is aware we're here. We either accelerate entry within the next two minutes or we withdraw before it decides how to respond." The magic feels wrong, thick and malevolent in a way that makes my skin crawl. This isn't just a haunted tower; this is something that hunts.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I mark every suspicious stone slab on the ground level with my mace, have Seraphine start the ward spell immediately—it needs five minutes of quiet focus—and order Jeane to scout the upper floors without drawing attention to that main window. We're looking for hidden entrances, pressure plates, anything that might let us slip inside before whatever's upstairs decides we're dinner guests instead of thieves.
