Narrator · Narrator

At The base of a crumbling stone tower, its entrance sealed by an ancient rune-covered gate, deep within the haunted Whispering Woods., the shared situation sharpens into an immediate decision point. What is already in motion no longer supports waiting or circling. The next concrete move will determine how this scene changes.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

Jeane surveys the ominous tower gate with calculating eyes. This structure screams ancient power and recent corruption. The runes pulse with residual magic—dark, yes, but not unnatural in its form. They're warnings, not active curses. The other women look to me for guidance; I meet their gazes evenly. Halie, Merrin—I need you both checking the immediate perimeter for sentries or traps. Varrika and Seraphine, help me decipher these runes before we force entry. The last thing we need is triggering some forgotten alarm system. I step closer to the stone door, my sorcerer's senses extending like ghostly fingers. If there are guardians within, they'll know we're here soon regardless—but we might as well choose our own moment rather than letting them dictate terms.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I circle the perimeter slowly, my heavy mace clutched in one hand, eyes scanning every shadow and crumbling stonework for movement or traps. The air here feels thick with old magic, yes—dark but not chaotic, not inherently evil the way demons are supposed to feel. I come back to the main gate and shake my head at Jeane's question before she can even ask it. "No sentries visible within twenty yards," I report quietly. "But these walls have seen too much history to trust their silence."

I move closer to examine the runes myself, ignoring Varrika's muttered complaints about 'cleric meddling' in matters of magic theory. The symbols pulse with a malevolent energy that makes my skin crawl—not because they're wrong, but because they're being used for something profoundly twisted. "These aren't just protective wards," I say after a moment. "They're... feeding on something."

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's eyes dart from the pulsing runes to the looming tower walls and back again. Her hand twitches toward her crossbow, but she resists the urge to draw it. Too many unknowns. "Alright, let's see what we've got here," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. Her voice is tight with tension, but there's a familiar edge of bravado that helps mask the fear gnawing at her insides. She creeps along the perimeter, senses straining for any sign of traps or hidden dangers. The tower's ancient stones seem to loom over her, their shadows deepening into pools of impenetrable darkness. Merrin's heart hammers in her chest as she inches closer, straining to make out the details of the runes. "Shadow demons, eh?" she calls over her shoulder, voice laced with sardonic humor. "Well, that's just great. Because what we really needed was an extra helping of eldritch horrors on this little joyride."

Her attempt at levity falls flat even to her own ears. Merrin swallows hard, trying to banish the sudden image of glowing red eyes and leathery wings that springs unbidden to her mind. "Right. Traps first, then we'll worry about the demonic backup dancers," she announces, more for her own benefit than anyone else's. Her fingers itch to grab her tools and get to work, but something holds her back - an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach that won't quite go away. Merrin takes a deep breath, steeling herself. Then, with a muttered prayer to whatever gods might be listening, she reaches out to examine the first rune up close...

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I approach the massive stone gate, my fingers tracing the intricate runes etched into its surface. The air crackles with an ancient power, a dark resonance that makes my skin prickle.
The magic here is not like anything I've encountered before—it feels old, older than most of the world. And it feels... hungry. As if these walls themselves have become a kind of prison, trapping something vast and angry within them.
I turn to the others, my voice low and urgent. "This isn't just a tower. It's a vessel for some great and terrible force. The runes aren't just locks; they're the keyholes to its cage."
My gaze drops to the ground, where a faint shimmering pattern seems to shift beneath the dirt. My heart sinks. "And I think whatever is inside has already found us."
I straighten up, squaring my shoulders as I look back at the towering structure. There's no turning back now. The sword we seek is in there, but so is the key to a cage that looks more and more like a tomb with every passing moment.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I approach the tower gate, my heavy mace clutched in my scarred hands. The runes pulse with a dark energy, and I can feel the weight of ancient magic pressing down on us. "These wards aren't just keeping us out," I mutter, running a finger over the cold stone. "They're feeding off something inside."

I turn to the others, my voice grim but resolute. "We need to be ready for whatever comes at us once we breach those doors. Whatever dark sorcerers or demonic entities are lurking in there, they won't give up the sword easily."
