Phase: converging

The crumbling tower looms over them like a patient predator, its stone facade weathered by centuries of neglect and something fouler. The air around the base carries the faint scent of decay mixed with brimstone—a smell that speaks of ancient deaths and darker rituals performed long after the last living soul should have fled this cursed place.
Jeane steps forward, her crimson eyes scanning the massive gate sealed by arcane runes that pulse with a malevolent light. The magic here is old, yes, but it's also hungry—a ravenous thing that feeds on despair and fear. She turns to her companions, her voice steady despite the dread coiling in her gut. "This tower isn't just abandoned. Something inside is very much alive—and it doesn't want visitors." Her gaze lingers on Halie and Merrin, the two most likely to rush headlong into danger without proper recon. "Halie, Merrin—I need you both checking the immediate perimeter for sentries or traps. Varrika and Seraphine, help me decipher these runes before we force entry. The last thing we need is to trigger some ancient guardian because we were too eager."
Halie nods, her blue-grey eyes hard with determination even as she grips her mace tighter. She moves away from the group in a slow, methodical circle around the tower's base, every sense alert for movement or magical triggers. The stone under her boots feels wrong somehow—as if the very ground is alive with dormant malice waiting to awaken.
Merrin, ever the scout, slips into the shadows with practiced ease. Her dark eyes dart from corner to shadowed alcove, searching for any sign of ambush or hidden threats. She trusts Halie's combat skills implicitly but knows that even the best fighter can't save them all if they stumble into a trap designed by mad wizards long dead.
Seraphine approaches the gate with an expression of intense concentration, her fingers tracing the intricate patterns carved into the stone. The magic here is unlike anything she's encountered in her studies—raw, ancient, and utterly corrupt. She feels a chill settle over her as she realizes the true nature of the wards protecting this place. "This isn't just a tower," she hums to the others, her voice barely audible. "These walls themselves have become... something else. A prison, perhaps, or a feeding ground for whatever lies within."
Varrika grunts softly, her scarred hands running over the cold stone. She can feel the wrongness of it seeping into her palms—the weight of countless deaths and darker rituals performed in this very spot. "These wards aren't just keeping us out," she mutters, more to herself than anyone else. "They're feeding off something inside." She turns to face the group, her expression grim but unyielding. "We need to be ready for whatever comes at us once we breach those doors. Whatever dark sorcerers or demonic entities are lurking in there, they won't welcome visitors."
The air grows heavier as the sun dips below the treeline, casting long shadows across the clearing. The tower seems to loom larger somehow, its presence more oppressive in the encroaching darkness. Jeane feels a shiver run down her spine—a sensation she recognizes all too well from her time in darker corners of the world. This place is alive with malice, and it's hungry.
She takes a deep breath, steeling herself against the dread that threatens to paralyze her. "Alright," she says finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "Let's find out what secrets this tower holds—and whether we'll live long enough to regret uncovering them."
