Jeane's footsteps echo through the narrow staircase, the sound of rushing water growing louder with each step. As she descends, the air grows colder and heavier, thick with decay. The ground beneath her feet vibrates with dark energy, making her crossbow bounce slightly in her hand. At the bottom, a narrow floor stretches out before her, lined with ancient runes that pulsate with an otherworldly glow. A small pool of stagnant water reflects the eerie light, creating a sense of disorientation. Merrin's torch casts distorted shadows on the walls, making it seem as though something moves just beyond the reach of the light. Varrika's voice crackles over the comms, her words laced with urgency. "Jeane, be careful! The skeletons are closing in! Hold them off long enough for Halie and Seraphine to map the floor."

A skeletal hand crashes against the door at the top of the staircase, sending the wooden slats creaking under the impact. The sound sends a chill down Jeane's spine, and she readies her crossbow, taking aim at the stairs above.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I'm down here, but it ain't pretty. Place smells like a tomb... which I guess it is. Staircase crumbling under my boots. Keep an eye out above, yeah? Would hate for any of those skelly pals to join the party.

Jeane

Jeane · Sorcerer

The air grows heavier with each descent—cold and thick with decay. Merrin's torchlight flickers above, casting distorted shadows on ancient walls slick with moisture. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and the ground beneath her feet seems to vibrate with dark energy. The runes carved into the stone walls here are different—fresher, their glow pulsing with an unsettling rhythm that makes her skin crawl. Whatever's renewing those skeletons piece by piece... it could be dangerous to provoke without understanding first. We'll map this floor first before we attempt any rescue. Varrika, you hold that entrance secure no matter what; Halie and Seraphine, we move together and carefully. I'll go down with crossbow ready, but we proceed methodically. If anything feels off... out now. No heroics earn us dead.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I peer into the depths of the hidden chamber, my gaze fixed on the eerie, pulsating runes that seem to dance along the ancient stone walls. The air here is thick and heavy with an unfamiliar energy, unlike anything I've felt before in my studies of the arcane. It clings to my skin like a damp fog, raising the fine hairs on my arms.
The sound of Merrin's voice, muffled and distant, echoes up from below, a stark reminder of our companion’s precarious situation. My mind races with possibilities—what fresh horror could be animating these long-dead bones? What dark ritual is at work here?
I turn to Jeane, my expression one of grim determination mixed with a deep-seated fear. This is no ordinary undead infestation; something far more insidious is at play.
"The runes... they're not just signs of an ancient curse," I whisper, my voice so low it's almost lost in the dank air. "They're active. Alive."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I keep my crossbow trained on the shadows, scanning for any sign of those skeletal bastards. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up—dark magic's thick in the air down there. I can feel it even from up here. crackles over comms Keep your wits about you. Something foul's at work in these ruins, and it's not just old magic left to rot. Stay sharp down there.

Halie

Halie · Cleric

I watch Jeane descend with growing unease. This feels wrong—the way the air grows heavy, the sound of water beneath us, those pulsing runes. We should map this floor carefully before attempting any rescue. Merrin's trapped, yes, but rushing in blindly serves no one. Varrika has the entrance secure—trust her strength and watch our backs. Seraphine's right to be cautious. These aren't just old bones walking—the magic feels... alive. Some dark ritual is feeding this horror piece by piece. We need to understand what we're dealing with before we act. I'll keep my mace ready, silver symbol in hand for any undead that might stir closer. No, Jeane—we stick together. Two pairs: you and Seraphine map the runes and find Merrin's path; me and Varrika maintain overwatch. If something fresh crawls from these shadows, we'll know it. We've faced worse than bone puppets before. But this... this feels like something new.
